Geolocation issue

I recently got AT&T Internet Air. The service has been just as good, if not better, than either of the 2 cable broadband companies that service my neighborhood and bundling it with my existing cell service made it cheaper than the other options.

The issue I am running into is with the geolocation service on my desktop PC. There are several things I do online (skill games, social casinos, and sports betting) that use geolocation services via IP address to determine what state you are in because different states have different laws. I am in central Ohio. When trying to connect via my PC, it is showing up as being in Michigan which is an issue because Michigan is more restrictive so I am location restricted and not allowed to participate.

I know it goes through the cell network so it doesn't operate the same as a hardline connection would. I have no issues using my cell phone to connect to the same websites, it is only my PC. When I go to say, Google maps, and allow location sharing; it shows up as my actual location within a few 100 ft.

I do not normally use a VPN but I tried connecting through an Ohio based VPN however all of the sites have fairly sophisticated VPN detection and are restricting me when trying to use a VPN.

I am open to any other suggestions, regardless of complexity. If I am unable to resolve the issue, I will need to look at other options since this limits a large part of what I use my home PC for.

Haven’t seen a workaround yet myself. It’s going to take some smarts and persistence to bypass the inherent implementation of CGNAT.

I've had the Internet Air service for several months, now, in the (brand new to AT&T) Denver, CO, area.  For most of that time, (IP address-based, I assume?) location varied widely, even on the same day -- everywhere from Seattle to Atlanta, and multiple places in between, more often either Richardson (Dallas) TX, or Houston -- all places within AT&T's longstanding land-based internet footprint (e.g., U-verse). Easiest way to tell was launching Ookla Speedtest, to see where it tried to route the test.

Another way was to select "shopping" after a Google.com search in Chrome, to see where it tried to find a local deal -- same widely scattered results, many places except home.  I was also able to rule out my computer & settings by switching back to my old provider; these anomalies went away temporarily until I switched back to Air.  Oh, and using a personal VPN helped some, but seems the Air network didn't like it much -- affected my browsing speed intermittently -- from slow to dead stop -- when it was activated.

Maybe a couple weeks ago, however, that all changed.  Speedtest is consistently hooking up with local Denver test servers, now, and Google shopping is centering its searches to my suburb.  I suspect the network team has been working to straighten things out in shiny new markets like mine, and it appears to be working.  Speeds seem more consistent (and very good), too, without having to periodically reset the Air device to keep it there.

This is all good news, because I was stalling on shutting down my previous internet provider over this.

Hope others still experiencing these issues see the same improvements I have.

UPDATE:  Incorrect geolocation issues have returned to me here in the Denver market.  Speedtest again thinks I'm in Richardson (Dallas); Google Chrome Shopping thinks I'm in Indianapolis. The issue makes finding something for sale locally via Google's shopping functionality virtually impossible (unless I switch to a different available WiFi source), because Chrome has no functionality to correct incorrectly deduced location.  Inclined to think this is an IP address registration issue; hope AT&T is working to assign some dedicated ones to this market.

Also, have seen some minor speed degradation return -- not as bad as before, but have seen upload speed drop 75% from typical, download 50%, both restored to typical (also as before) by resetting the Air device.  Suspect this is something potentially involving the software on the device; similarly hope AT&T is investigating.

All in all, expected growing pains with a new service; looking forward to seeing the bugs get ironed out soon.

This issue affected me with my RSN on Fubo.  It took away Bally Sports Detroit and gave me some odd local channels.  When I contacted Fubo support and did a test, my location said I was in Florida.  They updated my account information and the RSN and my Detroit locals came back, however now I'm noticing ads from Tampa on YouTube etc.   This is going to be a bigger issue as more people switch over to ATT Air.

I don't know if the solution is going to be on AT&T's side and finding a way to correct the geolocation / IP data they are sending out to Air modems or if if more location specific apps will have to start prompting for your devices precise location. Mobile location uses tower and/or GPS data by default but other devices seem to rely solely on the IP location data. Definitely going to cause more issues as people switch to not only ATT air but all the other over the air wifi options as well.

Yes it's a big issue widely reported here . As gh8sro implied, there may not be a solution to this

The Internet Air service at my location has been reliable with good performance and streaming quality. There seems to be some progress with the IP based location data being provided by MaxMind, but other databases are not so great.  In addition, my public IP addresses change at least daily. It was fun but back to cable internet for me.
