AT&T On Line Speed Test

I've signed up for AT&T's 300mb Fiber Internet service. Ever since the install, my internet runs slower than it did with our previous 100mb service (through another carrier).

When I run on-line speed tests, (AT&T or Google) it comes back between 90-95mb.  That's less than a third of what I signed up for. In fact, the test often shows UPLOAD speeds FASTER than the download speed - which is completely backwards.

Any thoughts on what the problem might be? We've already had a tech come out, and when I call AT&T they just tell me their system says it's sending us 300mb.

Appreciate any input... thanks!

Hello @justduane,

We're happy to help, if you're still having trouble with your Internet speed.

We have a great article that has recommendations to improve your Internet speeds. Check it out and let us know if you see a difference.

First: your link to "improve internet speeds" was invalid.  Second, we have exactly one television in our home connected via Wifi, and three iPhones. That's it. Shouldn't be a massive load on the system.  We had a technician come out. His tools claimed we're getting full speed. My only question is why does every on line speed test tell me we're only getting 90Mb??/  (See attached image...)

Thanks for the response, @justduane!

The picture you posted looks like it's from a computer. How is that device connected when you're running the speed test? Try connecting the device by ethernet to see if that changes the speed test results.

It's likely that your Gateway (router) is getting the right speed for your package, but your devices aren't getting a strong enough signal through WiFi.

We recommend that you check out our Smart Home Manager to test your WiFi and see if you may need to get a WiFi extender. You should also check your Gateway's environment to make sure there isn't anything causing signal interference like other electronics or that it isn't connected to a surge protector/power strip, which can slow your speeds.

Let us know if you still have questions.

That PC is sitting right next to the router and is connected via Ethernet (network) cable into the router. THAT's why I can't figure out the speed issue.  There is NOTHING other than the router between that PC and AT&T and it's directly connected via Ethernet.  So... still stumped.

Also note that the UPLOAD speed is actually FASTER than my DOWNLOAD speed!!!  How is that even possible??

Try different speedtest sites and different cities/servers. Some servers are not as good as others. Chances are you will get close to or over 300 mbps on other sites.
