Chromecast 2nd gen with Arris NVG589

Hello,

I think I have tried all the different forums and answers by distinct people on how to setup the Chromecast with an Arris NVG589 router. None have worked for me...

I tried MAC Filter list, changing the preferable band (either 2.4ghz or 5.2ghz), changing a couple of settings into the 192.168.1.254, host, DNS, etc, etc, etc...

Does anyone know how to finally set this up?

In the end, if it does not work, really, I'll return the Chromecast to the store, which is a boomer, since I really wanted to have it working, instead of plugging a HDMI cable into my laptop everytime I want to watch a movie or something.

Thank you,

Caio

Hi @caioafc,

We apologize about the issues you are having with your Chromecast, but we will be glad to help. When connecting your Chromecast and all your devices, you want to make sure they are all on the same network, so if you are using the 5Ghz network, you want to make sure the Chromecast and streaming device are both on it. Also, sometimes it helps using a different device to register the Chromecast. We have noticed that sometimes trying both with a laptop and the mobile app help a lot.

Hi AT&T,

As per my original post, I have tried with both 2.4ghz and 5ghz, but did not work.

I have seen the same response in all related posts, so I guess that's your first template response to all customers.

Could you be more specific on what I need to do?

Perhaps I need to deactivate Client Isolation (AP)? Or enable UPnP? But how?

Thanks,

Caio

Hi,

You should not need any additional configurations. Actually, if you do have any, you want to change it back to default. We suggest resetting the router to undo any settings you may have made. Are you having the same issue with both the Chromecast app and with using the program on the computer?

Hello,

Yes, same issue with both.

I saw a lot of sites telling you to change the AP isolation settings as well as UPnP. Is there any way I can do with with the Arris NVG589 router?

I have tried with the default configuration and it fails with the same errors. I can attach a screenshot if that helps.

Thank you!

Hi @caioafc,

Are you getting the same error with the mobile app and the desktop app?

Hello,

I tried with my mobile and it worked, initially.

I'll run a few more tests and let you know.

Thanks for the support!

That is  great to hear! After you get it going, the desktop and other devices should connect with no issues.

I have fallen into the same trap with my ChromeCast and the same Motorola router.  I don't understand what the solution was for this thread.

My router is working for all things computer and cable-related.  It was subjected to a power outage yesterday from a rain storm.  I have 2 Chromecast units and they are fine.  They recognize themselves and they are not in conflict.  I did the factory reset on them to set them back up as new devics.  That's when I hit the Router error.  So I have isolated the problem to the router and most likely the power outage event from yesterday.  But all other services are back up and running.

@woodchipper518, could you be more specific about what issues you are seeing with regards to your Chromecasts and the AT&T Gateway?
