Hi @kertj1, we are happy to help with your firmware updates.

Restart your gateway to update the software, sometimes referred to as firmware.

Restart your gateway using AT&T Smart Home Manager:

  1. Sign in to Smart Home Manager and select Network.
  2. Scroll to and select the Home Network Hardware.
  3. Select Wi-Fi Gateway and then Restart.
  4. Select RESTART.

Want to know which software version is currently on your gateway? Here's how:
  1. Open Smart Home Manager and select Network.
  2. Select Home Network Hardware.
  3. Select Wi-Fi Gateway and then Device Details.
  4. Find your software version listed at the bottom of the screen.

If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.

Thank you for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums!

Thanks for the response...

I tried that and my firmware version is still: 11.6.0h 0d48

Does that mean that 11.6.0h 0d48 is the latest version?

@kertj1

If you followed the steps we provided and that is the version you see, then yes, that's the latest one for your gateway.

If you have any other questions, let us know.

I have a question. That firmware was released in 2020. Why is AT&T providing hardware to it's customers that isn't having it's firmware updated?  No software/firmware is ever absolutely perfect, which is why firmware/software updates exist.  If the manufacturers didn't HAVE to update firmware for hardware, they certainly wouldn't waste the re$ources doing so... I can only assume that for the first time in the history of firmware the manufacturer must have perfected the firmware and also made it 100% optimal for technologies/protocols that didn't even exist in 2020. A lot changes changes when it comes to wireless technology over the course of 4 years.  I am currently paying for 50 Mbps and, although I do see that coming over the wire, I max out at 28 Mbps at best on the WLAN.  Luckily I have a new router on the way, but I just wanted AT&T to know that this is kind of ridiculous. The NVG589 has a single band radio operating at 2.4 Ghz, which means it might have decent range, but the downside of that is it transmits/receives at a much slower rate than a 5 Ghz radio in order to have that range. There are many users who are more interested in a routers throughput than the range it can transmit a signal; those in small home/apartments. This is common knowledge and should be obvious from looking at the ridiculous amount of data that is mined from AT&T's customers. I realize that the person from AT&T that will read this message isn't personally responsible for saddling some of AT&T's users with outdated hardware like this, but if you pass that guy in the hall at some point, at work please give him a message for me.  "You (Edited per community guidelines)".

@Timb1971

The original post was from March 2021, over 3 years ago.

The 589 gateway was released in 4th quarter 2013.

Most ATT gateways are distributed for (8) years or in this model expected (4th Q 2013-4th Q 2021).

When gateways are being discontinued, will no longer receive updates.

Gateways are not automatically replaced, the customer must call to request replacement.

Currently the only customer gateways being updated are the BGW-210 originally released 4th Q 2017

AND the BGW-320 originally released 4th Q 2020 during Convid pandemic.

@Timb1971 I'd suggest you call regarding the Wi-Fi speeds on your Gateway and ask for them to ship you a replacement.  [Warning: before you do that, be sure that nothing is hooked to the coax port of your NVG589, the gateways now being distributed do not have a coax port.]

If you need further assistance, please create your own post.  This one is 3 years old.
