GATEWAY 5268AC-ATT disabled USB PORT is Standard
GATEWAY 5268AC comes with a DEAD USB PORT. Very disappointed that ATT disables the USB port. I was trying to get away from the 3rd party router and use the ATT equipment and continue to make my printer and external harddrive WIFI accessible. However, ATT for some stupid reason has their USB port disabled. Lame, Lame, Lame! This is intentional and not the way Pace built the product.
If there is a way around this I would love to know. Guess the Airport will have to go back into action.

We apologize about the inconveniences, as we do disable the USB port. Hopefully, there is another way to connect your printer, as most now have the ability to set up through an Ethernet cable or wireless. What type of printer do you have?

If that is the case, you will probably need to go with a router behind router setup or connect the printer to your computer and create a internal network through your computer. If you connect your printer directly to your computer, will it work that way?

I am a brand new ATT U-Verse customer - and now find that my printer (a HP 1320) cannot be connected directly to the router/modem. Am I now forced put my Netgear WNDR3800 back into service between the ATT box and my home system? That is just ridiculous. Wouldn't a simple firmware update from ATT activate the USB port & permit my printer to be seen on my home network?

The USB port on the Gateway performs no function. If you want your USB printer connected to the network, then you'll have to connect it to a network-connected PC or connect your Netgear router.

Yeah just found this out...
Very disappointing that ATT goes out of their way to provide an inferior experience to their customers. My last provider, Comcast, I was able to use my own router (and modem) without paying for a junk modem/router from ISP. Liked being able to use my own router's USB to share media across the network.
ATT is really a joke. Sure hope the merger with TWC doesn't go through. Time Warner provides a better experience as well.

You can still use your own router. Just use the DMZ mode in your AT&T Uverse router and it will hand out a public IP to your target third party router.
The AT&T device also must authenticate you to the network to prove you are a subscriber. It doesn't use a standard protocol but one specific to AT&T hence a DSL modem wouldn't work. Some models support coax, adsl, or ethernet (for fiber gigabit) hence why the non-standard modem and why AT&T only rents the boxes now.

I connected a USB drive to this port. System log show it getting recognized and mounted. Is there anyway to make it shareable on Wifi?

GATEWAY 5268AC-ATT USB Port
I just recently began GHZ fiber service with AT&T. After reading through the previous messages, does the latest GATEWAY 5268AC-ATT allow a USB connection? And if so, should it auto detect? If not, is there a switch or something in the interface I need to turn on for this to happen?
