How can I move the router?
I have U-Verse TV and Internet, and I'm the only gamer in the household. I'd like to move the router into my room so I can use a wired connection for a better gaming experience, but the other members of the household say the router has to stay connected to the main DVR box, which is across the entire house. I was wondering: is that true, or can I safely move the router without messing anything up? If I can, are there any special procedures I need to go through to do it? And what are any risks I need to be aware of (especially concerning recorded programs on the DVR)?

The DVR has to be hardwired to the gateway. That is true.

The other restriction is the gateway (router/modem) must be wired to the wall/street connection and there is only one of those when it was first installed. So both that gateway wiring limitation plus, as previously mentioned, the dvr wiring to the gateway pretty much mean it's not going anywhere.
You could experiment with powerline adapters (google it) where you send an ethernet signal through your AC sockets. Potential problems are power line adapters may or may not "play nice" with other electrical devices plugged in the mains and vice versa. In other words they play to mixed reviews.
Do you also have a att wireless receiver in your room for tv? If so another possibility is move the gateway to your room ($149 to get att to do it) and switch the dvr and wireless receiver locations.

I do not have a receiver in my room anymore, nor will it be feasible to have the dvr in my room. Thanks for the information, even though I'm disappointed. At least there are still other solutions such as the powerline adapters or a super long ethernet cable. Even though they're not perfect solutions, they may help.

Have you ever had a Uverse receiver in your room ? in other words is there a coax cable access in your room? if so reply back.... I have a couple suggestions that can help you.
