In-bound NAT & port-forwarding issues with ATT Home Base (ZTE Z700A)
Before I purchased my ATT Home Base (ZTE Z700A), I had confirmed with multiple AT&T employees that it would do what I would like to do:
I would like to enable in-bound connectivity & NAT for Remote Desktop (using either TCP/UDP 3389), HTTP, FTP, and a few other ports for various services.
The options to enable Port Forwarding on the Z700A are:
Settings -> Advanced -> Router, UPNP Settings: Enable
Settings -> Firewall -> MAC/IP/Port Filtering: Enable (and to select the respective default ports, or to create custom).
Settings -> Firewall -> Port Forwarding: Enable (then to specify the internal IP, port, and protocol).
Settings -> Firewall -> DMZ Settings: Enable (then, define an internal IP).
Despite having configured these settings appropriately, no in-bound connections can be established to/through the target ports.
After all this, it's remotely possible that I'm not using the correct IP address... I've checked with multiple sites (since the HomeBase does not show it's public IP), and while each of them individually will report the same address, I have received different results, from different sites.

I have also been unsuccessful in setting up remote access to my home computer which is operating on a z700a personal account. These same computer was easily accessible on an old Westell router with a Centurylink hard line, with dynamic IP address and via port forwarding.
The ATT forum responses point fingers at dynamic IP addresses, and the need to get a static IP address. I would be interested in hearing from any users who have taken this step and sucessfully accomplished remote access via the z700a.
My remote computer is programmed to send an email with the current IP address each time it changes. When I am away from the house, I can get the IP address from my email, and am able to communicate (via the Westell router) to the home computer using the newest IP address without having to go through the trouble or expense of setting up a static IP address. Switching the same process over to routing through the z700a, my remote computer will send an email with it's new IP address, but so far I have not been able to use that address to establish a remote connection back to the computer via the z700a router.
It would be interesting to hear from someone who has actually gotten this to work. It is somewhat ominous that the several posts referencing this problem either go unanswered, or the responses are simply linking back to the owner's manual that came with the router. From what I see on this forum, nobody has actually gotten this to work.
I will continue to work on this intermittently, but after a few days of fairly concentrated effort I am suspicious that port forwarding in the z700a router is not functional, which would be why the few responses that have been forthcoming are saying that a static IP address (and thus a stable NAT table) is required for remote access.

I will admit this has be stumped. I had RDP for this account port forwarding on our old hard wire modem but not with this thing. It really should only be enabling port forwarding and specifying the port range and destination IP. I cannot get this to work. I have been a computer tech for many many years and now I feel like a rookie.
Come on ATT what is the magic sauce?

Did you guys get this to work? I cant even figure out how to get through on a router up-stream from my Z700A.
