LAN gaming issue with Arris NVG510

Just got my U-verse set up, and all is well except for one area, and that is gaming over my LAN.  I didn't change my settings with my computer, but I did get a new modem/router (Arris NVG510).  There seems to be some firewall setting preventing any one computer from communicating with another (for gaming over the LAN), but I don't know how to get around this.  My main computer is wired into the modem, but my son's computer is Wifi. I tried calling AT&T, but they weren't much help.  I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter.

Okay, then what?

I see "Service" and "Needed by Device" pull down menus.  I just wanted to play over the LAN. Do I need a custom service?  I never thought that it would be so difficult just to play over the LAN.

Here's the manual:

Go to page 53, will explain how to do it. 😉

With the computer on the uverse network, open your internet browser to 192.168.1.254 enter the code on side of gateway as instructed. Click on the firewall tab then click NAT/gaming

Let me get this straight... you're just trying to play a game with LAN communication between the two computers.  No contact with any Internet hosted game server?

Can you tell us what game?

Do you know if it uses TCP/IP to communicate?

Can you PING each other's computers?

Do you have any networking equipment other than the U-verse Residential Gateway (switches, other routers or access points)?

Thanks for the manual.  I downloaded it, and its instructions seemed to have solved the issue.

You're welcome, the manual is good as it explains how to do things and what not to do. Smiley Very Happy
