Should do I upgrade my AT&T Router/Gateway or is there a way to improve my WiFi speed?

I have the Internet 24 plan with the 2Wire 3801HGV-B model thats probably 10+ years old and noticed that when doing the speed test, it only between 0.5-3 Mbps on download. It might be better when it's only me using the WiFi but it's still around that range so I'm not really sure what to do at this point. Thanks for any insights on this matter.

Yes, it's an old Gateway that should be replaced.  So do call. However, don't necessarily expect that replacing the gateway will solve all your problems.  If the issue was actually Wi-Fi, it might help.  If the issue is line quality, the newer gateway (the BGW210) can help with that some, but if your lines are in bad shape, you'll need someone to come actually work on the lines (or if they're deteriorated past repair, tell you that).

Oh yeah definitely, call 800 288 2020 and just say how slow your internet is, they'll pick up on outdated router right away and set you up with replacement.

Couple of points before getting into this.  If for some reason you still have Uverse TV settop boxes connected to the gateway’s coax port, you’re going to have to make changes there to accommodate Ethernet only connections.

Second, your current gateway is out of support, so it is a good idea to get something that’s at least supported by Att.

About line quality, Att can do this test for you upon request or you can use online tools to check.  The gateway itself can do some as well by accessing the management console at 192.168.1.254 if you’re curious.

Lastly about Att gateway WiFi, the plain fact is it’s just not very good. Many of us go out and buy our own systems to replace what comes with the gateway.
