Uverse Downstream speed upgrade?

I'm upgrading from 45mbps to 75mbps...

I received my confirmation numbers and order numbers etc., and its showing an install date of January 4, 2016.

My question is, why doesn't it just UPGRADE my speed? Why does a tech have to come out to my house for a speed upgrade? Is there a differnt Gateway modem required from 45 to 75?

Thanks.

It's more than just pair bonding, tech has to come and make sure everything is working properly.

IIRC, they put a special device on the line to cancel out any noise on the DSLline.  This makes the higher speed possible. 😉

You might want to call and see if you have to be home. The install date may just be the day a tech has to make changes somewhere (crossbox) to upgrade your speed. What RG do you have now?

Sorry for super late reply...

Yeah, I'm using a NVG589 Residentail Gateway, Its in passthrough mode to my N900 Netgear Router (which I prefer using for network management).
Mostly, I wanted to know if a new modem was required for upgrading to 75mbps... After doing a little bit of reading I have discovered that the 75mbps service uses a NVG599 Residential Gateway.

Guess this means I'll have to tear the cables to my RG out of the wall so they can swap out for the new modem...
Thanks guys.
