Uverse Wireless Receiver Installations / Alternative installations for the Access Point
My gateway is bridged to a cisco router, and there is an 18 port switch in another location that is wired to the router. If its possible to connect the Uverse AP to the switch (rather than the gateway), I'll get a better signal to the Wireless Receiver.
Is that possible, and if so, would anyone care to propose some general instructions on how to establish the link between the Gateway and AP?
I hooked everything up in this manner, and while the receiver is talking to the AP, the AP does not seem to find the Gateway automatically thru the network.
Thanks!

As I understand it, the router is creating a new network & the WAP needs to be on the same network as the gateway.
You need to change the settings on the cisco to act like a switch (dumb router or pass through?) I believe you can search for instructions in the forum. Or, replace it with a switch.
Another nuance - Mixing TV and internet access on the same leg from the RG may or may not cause switch flooding. Best to have seperate legs - one for TV & one for computers. Multiple each with a switch for multiple devices.

There are posts from one user that knew everything needed that got it go work through his router behind the RG, but not through a switch like yours. It has to have IGMP snooping and has to have the 802.1p protocol to pass video through the WAP.
This is not for tinkerers, a good depth of networking is needed as many other things are needed to be done too.
Best thing you could do is get a longer ethernet cable to lenghten the distance of the WAP and the RG. 😉
Edit: Inexpensive ethernet cables here:
