Wireless connection constantly disconnects randomly

As the title says, my wireless connection is very erratic. The peculiar thing is that my computer says that I have internet access, but when I try to browse the internet, it fails to load a page. My temporary solution to this has been just resetting my wireless access point via diagnosis every single time this happens (usually a few times a day. As of late, the disconnects have been happening more often (multiple times in an hour), and they have finally begun to annoy me even though this problem has been recurring for months. Is there any permanent solution to this issue?

Hi mwong226,

You didn't mention if you're using windows or mac operation system.  If you are using OSX Yosimite 10.10.1, you'll have this problem.  Apple hasn't fixed it yet.  They did put out a update 10.10.2, but what I've read, that isn't helping the issue either.  Folks are going back to Mavericks to solve the problem.

Doubt this actualy helps any, mostly a lot of conjecture, but have heard, lots of folks are having issues with windows 8.

My personal preferance is windows 7, but not a clue what is entailed in doing a downgrade on a system with win 8 as a new install.

Good news is, you might be able to upgrade to windows 10 at no charge, but have no idea if this would resolve your wi-fi connection issue.

I suppose you can try the approach of insuring there is a good signal between your wi-fi router and your laptop. I don't know what your setup is like (walls between your laptop and the router, for instance) but common sense is to locate the pc closer to the signal sourse, move the router closer, if you can, or use a repeater/signal booster, or heck, just a good wifi antenna.

Beyond that, I can sugest doing a topic search on the forum for others who have had wifi related issues, and ways they resolved them.

Good luck. There is a solution, the trick is to find it.  (insert silly wink here.)

Hi @mwong226

What is your signal strength when this problem occurs?

Is this only occuring on a wireless or wired connection?

Head over to http://192.168.1.254 in your browser and go over to the wireless settings section. There you should find an option for your wireless channel. Make sure that it's only set to channels 1,6, or 11. Do not use any other channel as it will likely lead to problems. Channel 6 is preferred out of those 3.

I am having constant connection reset problems.  Mine channel was set to 10.  I've successfully switched to 6.  I am hoping this will help.
