ATT now CANCELS your email accounts upon moving internet service to another provider

Beware that ATT will now inactivate your ATT email accounts when you cancel your internet service.  I've been a long standing ATT customer with DSL internet for over 20 years.  I had email accounts using the sbcglobal.net and att.net domain that I've had since setting up my account many years ago.  Due to inability to provide faster internet service for streaming I've had to move away from the ATT DSL service.  Two weeks after canceling my internet I find my email accounts can no longer be accessed!  Apparently this change is fairly recent as when searching online you will find many references that ATT allows you to keep email accounts even when changing service.  NOT TRUE ANY LONGER.

ATT internet customer service told me there is nothing they can do and provided me a number to call who "may be able to help"  The number (877-267-2859) rings busy and no one ever picks up.  Sad that they are discontinuing email accounts with no forewarning to the customer.  I had emails I would have saved  or forwarded to a new service had I known.  Be sure you do before cancelling your internet if you use ATT email!!

Hello @gebharms,

Thank you for reaching out to us!
We understand your concern! Let's get the help you need, and point you in the right direction.

To answer your question, Yes you can keep your email account.  The email becomes a free email.

Note that your account must be good standing and with free email, you won't be able to create subaccounts.

We suggest that you view this article to get tips on how to keep your email address even if you cancel your AT&T account. Even after you have switched the service provider.

Let us know if you need anything else!

Thank you.

That would be helpful if I were able to access my ATT account with my member ID which has also been deactivated.  The suggestion says to access your profile which I can no longer do.....

To Unmerge the account, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to myAT&T, and log in with your AT&T Member ID and password.
  2. Select Profile > Update My Profile.
  3. Under AT&T Email Accounts, select Account Profile.
  4. Next to Member ID, select Delete Account.
  5. Select OK to confirm.
  6. Confirm that the Status at the bottom of the User Information section now reads Disabled. Your email account has been deleted.
  7. To continue using your Yahoo email, sign in to Yahoo mail. Select the Unmerge button in the bottom right corner of the page.

When I try to log into myATT all I get  is the following message

Something's gone wrong

We may be having trouble with your connection. Connecting your device to Wi-Fi could help fix the issue or try again later.
If you were using an app, close this page. Otherwise, start over.
800-288-2020 (Customer Service) told me there is nothing they can do!  I would love to try the tip noted.  Can someone please reactivate my account for short time to allow me to try to retrieve my email?

The contact page requires me to "sign in" which I'm unable to do as my account is deactivated.  Chat on the pages takes me to a virtual assistant which doesn't help.  877-267-2859 was a number I was given that only gets me a busy signal.  How do a reach a live person who can assist as all these means are not successful.
