Cannot Use Smart Devices Because 2.4GHz and 5GHz Networks Must Have Same SSID.
In short, all of my WIFI smart devices (Wyze Cam and smart plugs) operate only on 2.4GHz. By default, the 5GHz and the 2.4GHz networks have the same SSID. When assigning a different SSID to the 2.4GHz network, I receive the following warning:
Warning:Your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names and passwords must match, and both radios must be enabled with WPA2 security setting, to benefit from the enhanced Wi-Fi technology on your device.
Unfortunately, all of my smart devices only see the 5GHz network because of the shared name and don't even try to connect to the 2.4GHz network. Surely I am not the first to have this issue. Would someone be kind enough to offer some insight and guidance on how to resolve this pesky little nuisance?

Continue as you already have; name the two networks differently & ignore the warning. If band steering doesn't work in your situation, there's certainly no advantage to leaving it enabled. If your devices are working with the new naming scheme, you're good.

not sure what band steering is, but I will trust you that I will be okay.
My main concern was losing bandwidth / speed. If worse comes to worse, I
can always roll it back.
Thanks again,
Greg

Band steering uses a single WiFi network name to make both 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks available to all devices. In theory, a device that can handle 5ghz will connect to it, while 2.4ghz devices will do the same. In reality, it doesn't always work as intended. That's why you have the ability to go in and make the network names different in the first place. If the technology were perfect, that option wouldn't exist.
