Nighthawks Netgear with ATT Router

Trying to use Nighthawks Netgear with ATT Router.

Everything works now, I can get WiFi via Netgear router.  However, I'm no longer able to login my router(both wired and wireless) over http://192.168.0.1/

https://19216801.one/netgear-router-setup/

The connection just times out, so I'm unable to edit SSID and password

The following changes been made on ATT Gateway:

1) Firewall -> IP Passthrough -> Passthrough Fixed MAC Address -> Manual Entry -> Netgear router MAC address

2) Disabled WiFi on ATT Gateway BGW210

3) Restarted network
What else am I missing?
How can I now login into router and make the changes? I'm usually able to use it via http://192.168.0.1/, but only if it is not bridged with ATT Gateway.

You should be connecting to the router's Wi-Fi or via cable to access it.  You cannot connect from the Gateway "down" to the router, only from the router "up" to the Gateway.

Thanks for the response. Thats exactly what I did. Connected the router directly both wired and wirelessly :/

I gave up last night, and will be trying today again.

Okay, so you're connected DIRECTLY to your router.  And it's not responding?

Did you change your router's default IP from 192.168.0.1?

Disconnect your router from the Gateway and try again, and let us know if you can get to your router to respond to its management address while directly connected to the router?

Hey @busybee_, We understand that you're having trouble accessing your router behind AT&T's router. Don't worry, were here to see what we can do to help.

  • Have you checked to see what ip address the second router is getting from the AT&T router through the gateway's settings?
  • After finding out what ip address your getting try going to that domain. If that doesn't work for you we suggest that you try contacting the manufacturer of the second router.
  • How do I connect a router to my AT&T U-verse gateway. The provided link can help with setting up your router with AT&T gateway.
Please let us know what happens.

Thanks for troubleshooting this with me!

Bridged with ATT Gateway:

1) Laptop directly connected via Ethernet to the router, absolutely directly.

2) Now, I disabled WiFi, and left Ethernet connection alone

3) http://192.168.0.1/  times out.

Disconnected router from ATT Gateway:

1) Laptop directly connected via Ethernet to the router.

2) http://192.168.0.1/  times out.

Checked network settings on the laptop and seeing the following for Ethernet connection

IP Address 192.168.1.64

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Router: 192.168.1.254

I guess thats why 192.168.0.1 times out, but don't yet understand is it picking up ATT Gateway IP?

No other special changes were made, aside of

1) Firewall -> IP Passthrough -> Passthrough Fixed MAC Address -> Manual Entry -> Netgear router MAC address

2) Disabled WiFi on ATT Gateway BGW210

UPDATE: after I disconnected wired, and about to give up again until the next downtime I have, the 192.168.0.1  have loaded on WiFi alone (with the router disconnected from the ATT Gateway)

I made changes to network SSID and password, the changes made through, the network been restarted. Reconnected the WiFi, the internet doesn't work, but router login works.

Bridged router back with ATT Gateway, still can't get to the internet, but the router login works.

Your laptop is trying to use the IP information from the Gateway to communicate on the router, which will not work.  Did you manually configure your IP information on the laptop?  It should receive correct IP information upon connecting to the Wi-Fi via a DHCP request.

If your PC's address is 192.168.1.x, with a netmask of 255.255.255.0, then it will not operate when connected to a network with a router at 192.168.0.1.  Conversely, when its IP address is 192.168.0.x, it will not work on the 192.168.1.x network.

There is no bridged with Att gateway.

What purpose is the Netgear serving.  WiFi, or something more involved?

Don't know if OP will see this but it maybe helpful info. When you connect the nighthawk router to an ethernet port on the ATT router, I'm not sure where but the nighthawk detects and IP conflict. Nighthawk changes the default login IP of 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to 10.0.0.1. I stumbled across but playing around and resetting different things. Connect to the SSID of the nighthawk router and try 10.0.0.1 and you should be able to manage the settings. If you want to manage the ATT router switch your wifi SSID it displays and use 192.168.1.254
