Port Forwarding Issues

Port forwarding does not work. I have done all the necessary steps in the Firewall -> NAT/Gaming tab on the router and followed every tutorial I could find on AT&T's website but when I go to check if the the port is open externally it isn't. When I had spectrum this was such an easy feature, you just opened a port and set it to a device, no issues. How do I fix this and why is it so hard compared to other ISPs? This is single handedly making me want to switch back to Spectrum.

Hey @tylerstokes, we understand how important it is to be able to set up port forwarding, so that you can run your Minecraft server. Let's get you the help that you need.

First, we recommend you reboot your gateway first. Please follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the back of your gateway or modem. If you have:
    • An internal battery backup, remove it
    • DSL, unplug the phone cord from your modem or gateway
  2. Wait 20 seconds.
  3. Put the internal battery back in if you have one.
  4. Plug the power cord back in. If you have DSL service, reconnect the phone cord.
  5. Wait for the gateway or modem to restart and your Broadband light to turn solid green. This can take up to 10 minutes.

If that does not work, you may need to factory reset your gateway. Be sure to jot down your custom settings, like your static IP address if you have one, or your Wi-Fi® network name (SSID). You can then change them back after the factory reset. To perform the reset:

  1. Press and hold the gateway Reset button for at least 10 seconds. If you let go before 10 seconds, the gateway will reboot, but it won’t reset.
  2. Wait until the gateway restarts and all the status lights are lit.
  3. See if the Broadband or Service status lights are solid green. If so, the reset worked.

Afterward, try setting up port forwarding one more time. You can also check the AT&T Network Practices article. In this article, you can check to make sure that the ports that you are using are not blocked.

Let us know if this helps, or if you need further assistance.

Thank you for reaching out on AT&T Community & Forums!

This did not fix the issue. I called ATT and they were no help either. Is there a way to escalate this issue?

I had this issue as well with the AT&T Internet Air for Business Gateway.  My issue was very much the same.   Aftre setting up port forwarding several times the forwa just wouldn't work.   It appears that AT&T is using in this wireless router what is called CGNAT.  This means that the router itself does not have a public I P Address.   Just as Starlink they send a NAT I P address from the "tower" connection to all these hot spot routers.   Even though this router assigns NAT to the local nework as 192.168.1.1 network the device itself for it's WAN side is 10.0.10.1-??.  This is still a non public address.    NO port forwarding is allowed through.

I wish this would have worked.  I don't want to setup a vpn or something else to get the port forwarding done.  It's just that I was told it would work.  And the poor guy who was connected to me to support it, did not have a clue about this issue.
