Whenever you connect to an Att gateway for the first time, the password needs to be entered.  Has this been done and still getting authentication challenge?

We hear you, and we'll be happy to assist you with getting your phone connected to Wi-Fi, @DecayingLemon!

We'd advise you to first try resetting your device's network settings:

  • If you're using iOS or iPad OS 15 or later, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • If you're using iOS or iPad OS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • If you're using Android, tap Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings.

After that, try to connect to the Wi-Fi network again and see if the issue persists. If it does, we'll need additional context to better assist you:

  • What is the make and model of your device? This will help us find a resolution for your device.
  • Is this AT&T home internet service? If so, have you tried basic troubleshooting, such as restarting your gateway.
  • Are you receiving an error message when trying to connect to the Wi-Fi? Providing an error will help us understand why it is not connecting.

You can also try using this troubleshoot and resolve tool for Wi-Fi-related concerns. Simply log into your account and choose your specific device to get started.

Please reach back out to us and let us know if you still need assistance.

Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forum!

Hello @DecayingLemon!

Thank you for reaching out to us! We hear you, and happy to assist you with this.

There are steps that you can take to restore the internet access. Here they are:

If you are using Windows 10 or above

  1. On the far right-hand side of the task bar, you should see an icon that looks like a window with a small crescent moon on it. Click there.
  2. Click on Network.
  3. The network list should come up. Find the AT&T Network Name and Click on disconnect.
  4. Close everything down and power the computer down. Do not reboot or restart
  5. Wait for about 30 seconds back and then power the computer back on.
  6. Once the computer loads up, go back to the same symbol mention in step 1.
  7. Click on Network.
  8. Find the AT&T Network , and if it hasn't automatically connected, then press connect.
  9. Test by going to att.com
  10. If you are able to get there, then you are resolved.

If you are still not able to get online, then there might be a problem with your wireless network card.

Please try using this troubleshoot and resolve tool for Wi-Fi-related concerns. Simply log into your account and choose your specific device to get started.

We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know.

Check the printed label on the gateway device to ensure you're seeing and trying to connect to correct WiFi.  If you've made any changes to the gateway itself via the management console, you could always reset it to factory defaults.

Hi @DecayingLemon,

We understand that you're still unable to connect Wi-Fi to your laptop, and we're here to guide you.

We recommend that you try resetting your router to the original settings so it clears out any network congestion, you can reset by followinf few steps:

  1. Press and hold the gateway Reset button for at least 10 seconds. If you let go before 10 seconds, the gateway will reboot, but it won’t reset.
  2. Wait until the gateway restarts and all the status lights are lit.
  3. See if the Broadband or Service status lights are solid green. If so, the reset worked.

Note: Be sure to jot down your custom settings, like your static IP address if you have one, or your Wi-Fi network name (SSID). You can then change them back after the factory reset.

After the reset, You can try

  • Updating your Wi-Fi driver: Go to the HP support website and download the latest Wi-Fi driver for your laptop. Install the driver and restart your laptop.

  • Run the Windows Network Troubleshooter: Open the Windows Network Troubleshooter by right-clicking on the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar and selecting “Troubleshoot problems”. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix the issue.

  • Reset your network settings: Reset your network settings by opening the Windows Settings app, selecting “Network & Internet”, clicking on “Status”, and then clicking on “Network reset”. This will reset all your network settings to their default values.

We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.
