Pump and Dump-false advertising
I have been running Uverse for about a year at 3.0 speed. I recently chatted with a tech about an email question and was told that an automatic diagnosis program showed that I had an issue and they needed to dispatch a technician to check my system. When the tech arrived I was told he was here to lower my speed because I cannot get 3.0 at my location.
1- Can they run a diagnostic on my system without my permission?
2- This is pump and dump in my opinion. I would not have purchased uverse at 1.5 but now I am stuck with it.
3- tech told me that att was running fiber optic but would probably never run to my house.
4-From an email I received after, it seems I have a new contract. Does this require me to stay with this for two years before I can quit.

@bbirder2 Contact ATT Uverse Care on the link in my signature below, by Need Help?
Send them a Private Message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your Uverse service Internet switch problems.
Include your name, account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.
Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply, possibly by email instead. They can do more than any phone rep and stick w/it till it's done. Good luck 😉

This sounds very familiar to the problems I had when I subscribed to the old ATT Fast Access internet service. Fast access was a DSL service that provided published speeds up to 6.0 mps. The problem is that the farther you are from the central office, the slower your speeds are. If I recall, that maxium distance needs to be less than 3 miles, but I could be mistaken.
Moreover, I was constantly having problems with intermittant interruptions and slower speeds when it rained. You have to remember that the DSL runs over copper phone lines that have been around for years so the detoration of cable and wire insulation is ineveitable. Who knows what gopher might gnawed away at some delectable vinyl? After I complained for the 28th time, ATT said they could guarantee reliable service at 3.0 but not 6.0.
Thankfully at around that time fiber optic cable was installed close enough to my neighborhood outside of Nashville that I was able to get Uverse high speed and I haven't had a problem since then. What's interesting about fiber optic is that as long as the signal is close enough to the house, there apparently isn't a need for fiber optic to go completely to the house to get those increased speeds.
If you are an area that isn't being served by high speed internet, you may have to go to cable

Thanks for the reply. We are still discusiing the situation. I'll wait for now and see what they do for me. After all, I had no complaints. They initiated the service call that cut me back to 1.5. If they give me 3.0 back I'll be happy.
