Slow UVerse Speeds

I have the 18mbs package and am only clocking 3-5mbs. Just wondering why this might be happening. The channel of the router is on a channel that none of my neighbors are running.

What gateway do you have? How far are you from it? How many obstructions? What device are you determining the speeds on(phone, laptop, desktop, etc.)

Also, make sure you only use channels 1,6, or 11 to avoid overlapping most of your neighbors. Try channel 6 first.

Edit: Raise your gateway as high as possible. Place it more centered if possible too. Make sure that it's also not near any obstructions(metal and things like book shelves, etc.)

I have the NVG510. I am about 10 feet from it. No obstructions. I am determining speed with my laptop and phone and they are giving the same results. I am on channel 6 and no one else near me is on it.

@trapperj See SomeJoe's great wireless interference thread:

Also see the SJ post:

Please Read for a Potential Solution

For many people, the DHCP problems with the 2Wire/Pace/Motorola routers can be solved by configuring the RG as follows:

1. Go to http://192.168.1.254/ and find the RG's wireless configuration page.

2. Change the setting "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" to Disabled.

3. Change the setting "Authentication Type" to WPA2-PSK (AES).

4. Click the "Save" button at the bottom.

5. This procedure may ask for your RG's password. The default password for your RG is printed on a sticker on the side of the RG (3600HGV, 3800HGV-B, 3801HGV and NVG589/510) or on a white sticker on the backup battery (i3812V).

Disabling WPS should help with the DHCP timeout issue and general wireless connection problems.

Setting authentication specifically to WPA2-PSK/AES improves connection reliability on Macs and other Apple products.

Good luck 😉

Chris

Have you tried getting a powerline adapter for your laptop? or are you constantly moving?

I would also suggest you try a different wireless adapter for your laptop. Maybe something like this:http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Archer-T4U-Wireless-One-Button/dp/B00JBJ6VG8/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1421553831&sr=1-11&keywords=Wireless+adapter

If you don't mind a chunky adapter 🙂

or this if you want something with less performance, but smaller:

http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN823N-Mini-Sized-One-Button-10-4-10-8/dp/B0088TKTY2/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1421553885&sr=1-3&keywords=Wireless+adapter+300+Mbps

Check the broadband tab on your Residential Gateway ( http://192.168.1.254/ ) and look at the sync rates to make sure you're getting a 18 Mbps connection between your home and the AT&T network and look at the error counts to see if that's an issue.

Feel free to past that information in a reply for us to look at.
