Supporting multicast on AT&T router (ARRIS BGW210-700) over 224.4.4.4

Hello,

I have 2 machines, A and B, connected to my AT&T router. Machine A wants to send multicast packets to the multicast address 224.4.4.4. Machine B wants to listen to multicast packets on 224.4.4.4. It looks like your router simply does not enable any multicast packet. This worked perfectly with my previous Comcast router 😕

How to enable multicast on your AT&T (ARRIS BGW210-700) ???

This is a show stopper !!! 😕

I might have found the solution to my own question, which is to use 224.0.0.0 instead of 224.4.4.4. It looks like 224.0.0.0 is non-routable and 224.4.4.4 is routable (source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast_address). So it looks like that this router is erroneously filtering out any routable multicast packet, even to its own internal machines. The correct behavior is to filter out for the outside world (i.e. don't send them out), but never for the inside network. I'm coming from xFinity Comcast and their router did not have this odd behavior.

Am I missing something here or this ARRIS BGW210-700 router from AT&T is bad?

I seem to have the same problem. Did you ever discover a viable solution (that uses the multicast addresses you wanted to use)? Did you have to change the Gateway configuration somehow?

Thanks in advance!
