Uverse Internet Download Speed SLOW

Only using the AT&T provided 2Wire Router; Disabled wifi access point on the router so as ot isolate the issue; only thing connected to router is my MAC via ethernet (and yes I have the wifi turned off the mac as well).  Cloud backup is not occuring (disabled).

I'm supposed to get 12Mbps download (Internet Max) but over the course of 3-4 weeks I have been experiencing extremely slow download speed.  Using Ookla speed test it ranges anywhere from 1.5Mbps to roughly 6Mbps with wifi on and not much better when I turn wifi off (even with all other devices disconnected except MAC I was getting 3Mbps download this afternoon).  I will say that last Friday afternoon I was getting, for around an hour, the 12-13Mbps I was expecting w/wifi turned on the router.

Talked with AT&T and they are sending out a technician but I figured I would give the forums a try to see if there is a setting I could possibly change or if anyone else has encountered this problem?

I would recommend that you send a Private Message to the ATTU-verseCare Community Specialist team. One of the specialists will respond to your PM shortly. Please look for the envelope at the top right of the page for your response from a team member.

I'm consistently getting 15.35/1.98 on 12/1.50M VDSL Internet on my Win 7 laptop on ethernet.

Try speakeasy.net, I've gotten the most consistent speeds there over the years:

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

If you can, download SomeJoe's Uverse Realtime: http://www.uverserealtime.com/

Then post (using the little mountain on the reply page) these screenshots:
IP Profile
Bitloading
Error Table
Coax/HPNA (if there is anything showing up)

Works on Windows, not Mac unluckily (virtual machine running Win will work). These will show us info to diagnose.

Hide your personal info on the Config page of Realtime.

A working installation of VDSL-based AT&T U-Verse® using a 2Wire/Pace 3800HGV-B, 3801HGV, 3600HGV, or i3812V router required. 😉

I need to run the uverserealtime when I get back home this evening;

Techs came out Tuesday evening; they informed me that with speedtest its not going to show me the "real" speed and what they are looking for is a consistent speed???

In any event, and after some discussion and troubleshooting, they stated the outside box has an issue.  They did some work on it and broadband was speedy once again, however, the wireless on the router was no longer working - when I say not working I mean no green light, no device can find it - zilch.  After more troubleshooting they informed me that they would most likely get me a new router.  Its not two days later and no router and again, when testing with speedtest (I need to also try with speakeasy for comparison) only getting 7Mbps (pay for 12Mbps).

Oh - and we have a new issue as well; no recordings on uverse dvr show up on any other receivers in the house.  They are supposed to come out again tomorrow; Frustrating.....

I would like to know whether this sitution was resolved and what you did.  After over a year of excellent response and download speeds.  2 weeks ago, I started having these exact same symptoms.  connecting to sites takes forever, downloads take forever. Speed test looks good until I actually try to access a new site or download anything.  1st technician said I had too many devices connected and needed to up grade my 6mbs service to 12 - eventhough its worked fine all this time AND it doesnt make any difference how many deviced are connected.  2nd technician (with supervisor) changed out wires to the junction box.  3rd technican changed cables to the main hub.  2 new modems.  No difference in this behavior.

@marymillicent,

Does this happen with both wired and wireless devices?

Is IPv6 enabled on the RG and/or your device?  Can you turn it off?

Is anything uploading large amounts of data (Online backup, Google Drive, P2P file sharing, etc.?)

The tech made some changes to the circuit today and it seemed to be working well.  Now when I run the speed test on my iPhone, I get good download speed but 500ms pings and slow upload speed. When I run it from the ATT site, it won't even run - latency test error.I have no hardwire capable devices so I cant try that, but this is the 2nd new modem this week with no difference.

Okay - the answer was ... OneDrive!!  Uploading without limits eating up my entire bandwidth.

Do you have an Adroid or windows computer? I just installed U-Verse today, paying for 45 Mps. I have 45 Mps on a hardline, but wireless gets between 30 - 40 on (2) iPhones and below 20 on (4) Windows and Androids.  From my background, this sounds like a problem for AT&T's engineers to figure out if it is a S/W or H/W issue in their router. I was pulling 55 Mps wireless from my old cable service before the switchover. I will try to see if I can attach my old router to the AT&T router and get better wireless.
