Email bouncebacks

Hi - I have an old sbcglobal.net email address. Two big issues right now:

1. I've received several people telling me that they get a bounceback when they email me. I've tried from my work email and sometimes it gets bounced back and sometimes it goes through, but there's no real rhyme or reason why it might work one time and not the other. At this point I'm not sure how many emails are getting blocked/bounced and what I might be missing.

2. This may be related, but for the past 2-3 weeks I've been getting crazy amounts of spam emails, most of which have some form of "McAfee" in the title. It seems the only thing getting through is spam. I've been pretty relentless about checking the spam box to ensure nothing else is getting captured, but I wonder if somehow these two are related?

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

We're here to assist with your email concerns, @dhenkes111!

For the best assistance with your emails bouncing back, you will need to contact our Postmaster by emailing them at abuse_rbl@abuse-att.net.

In regard to the spam emails, we can provide instructions on applying a filter, since marking them as spam isn't helping. If you need those instructions, let us know what client you are using to access your email such as Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Can you post the contents of the bounce notice you get?  That usually has some data in it that will give us a clue.  I think I already know what it will say based on similar reports here, but let's be sure and see what yours say.

As far as the spam thing goes, ignore ATTHelp CalebP's suggestion.  You can't filter those with the filter capability that Yahoo provides you.  They know it and yet they keep posting this useless boilerplate answer.

I don't think the spam thing is related but seeing as how many issues are currently in play for Yahoo accounts who knows for sure.

As I just posted in a different thread, this has been happening for many months.  It's like Yahoo disables its own server-side spam protection for some period of time then somehow notices it and turns it back on.  It's gone off/on/off/on a number of times over those months with it being off right now.

There's absolutely nothing you can do about it except be happy that it's the only one of those half dozen issues you have right now.  Well, not true, the best solution is to move to another email service but most people seem happy to put up with the crap rather than deal with that.

Thanks @tonydi. Here is the text from one of the recent bouncebacks. Does this make any sense to you because it's gibberish to me....

Thanks!

Hmmm......someone else was in the forum yesterday with the same basic bounce notice.  Yahoo/AT&T is blocking mail coming from outlook.com for reasons unknown.

All you can do is to follow the instructions and forward the bounce notice to the  abuse_rbl@abuse-att.net address.  Given that this isn't some mom and pop ISP hopefully the Yahoo/AT&T people will take notice and do something about it.  Most of the time that address acts more like a black hole. 😟

Looks like these bounce back emails are still happening -- here is an example. Any idea how to fix?

This is happening on and off when I send work emails to clients through outlook where the recipient email is att.net, yahoo, or sbcglobal.net

example bounce back:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <[email scrubbed]>

(reason: 554 This mail has been blocked because the sender is sending too much mail for its authentication st...ain. See https://senders.yahooinc.com/smtp-error-codes#authentication-failures for more information.)

----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to mx-sbc.mail.am0.yahoodns.net.:

>>> DATA

<<< 554 This mail has been blocked because the sender is sending too much mail for its authentication status. Please set up DKIM aligned to the From: domain. See https://senders.yahooinc.com/smtp-error-codes#authentication-failures for more information.

Apparently, according to the messages I'm seeing:

(1) it looks like you don't have a DKIM signature in your outgoing mail; you might want to add that.

(2) it looks like you're exceeding some threshold of number of e-mails from a sender that don't have DKIM signatures on them (that threshold could be 1, or 3 or 15, they won't publish).

(3) Yahoo says "All senders need to authenticate their emails with either SPF or DKIM".  Do you have an SPF record for your domain listing your server?

I’m not the admin for my company but I can check with him about adding.
