Unable to access my email account at att.net

Hi -

I've had my account forever and I still receive my emails.  However, lately I've been getting a lot of spam and I wanted to log into my AT&T email account to modify my settings. I usually go to this link:  https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.intl=us&.partner=sbc&.src=ym

I enter my id and password and receive a message that too many sign-in attempts have been made (care code 205.2) . I'm prompted to enter my last name (which I do) , then I receive "

Unable to restore access at this time

We don’t have the account details needed to restore access

I've tried changing my password, but continually fail the challenge questions even though I know they are correct.  I'd be happy to verify myself any other way you decide.  Please help!!!

Hey @ LK40864,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

We understand how important is to have access for emails, let's point you in the direction.

We recommend that you follow the steps given below:

  1. Verify that you are entering the correct email address and password.
  2. Clear your browser cache and cookies.
  3. Disable any browser extensions or add-ons that may be interfering with your email.
  4. Try accessing your email from a different device or web browser.

If the above steps don’t work, you can try the following:

  1. Check your email size. If your email is too big, it may not be sent.
  2. Be sure you’re using the correct recipient email address. If not, you may get error messages like Failed Delivery or Problem Found - Message Not Sent.
  3. Try signing out of your email account and signing back in.
  4. Check your spam folder for missing emails.
  5. Review your settings. Select the gear icon, then check:
    • Blocked addresses: Be sure you aren’t blocking addresses you want to get email from.
    • Filters: Are emails going to the correct folder?
  6. Check if your account has been hacked. Your account may be compromised if you’re:
  7. Missing emails
  8. Receiving emails from your own email address
  9. Getting complaints about spam coming from your email address
  10. Seeing a display name that’s different from the one you set up.
  11. Learn what to do if your email has been hacked or phished.

You can resolve most common email concerns with our Resolve Email Issues support article.

Let us know if this information helps.

Thank you for using the AT&T Community Forums.

Thanks - none of this worked.  I even tried logging in on a brand new computer that has no cache or cookies.  My PC is still receiving emails from my [email scrubbed] account, so I know my account is good.  I can't "log out" of my AT&T account as suggested, as I'd need to get to the console to do that and I can't get access to my account. I just need to be able to login in to

https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.intl=us&.partner=sbc&.src=ym

so I can reconfigure some of my email settings.  Please help or escalate this issue if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @LK40864,

Thank you for reaching us on the AT&T Community Forums! Let's try to get you back into your email.

Have you tried resetting your password? Did you already create a secure mail key for your email?

We recommend you waiting 24hrs after last login attempt, then request to have a temporary password sent to you. You can do this by following these step on resetting with a temporary password:

  1. Go to http://sm.att.com/af7eebec.
  2. Select Forgot password?
  3. Fill out the password info.
  4. Choose security questions or temporary password and follow the prompts. If you choose a temporary password, we’ll let you know where we sent it.
  5. Create your new password.

We also recommend you to troubleshoot your email not working.

If that doesn't then you will have to create a secure mail key to access your email from a desktop program or email app due to enhanced security of AT&T mail.

Let us know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

Happy to assist!

Jennifer, AT&T Community Specialist.

I have been in that same exact nightmare loop for days now! Have you had any success? I can't find a customer service number to call or anything!

We understand you @JENALYN79 and we're here to help you!

To investigate this further, we'd need to move this conversation to a Direct Message.

I've done everything you requested, exactly, and I'm having the same problem.  When I choose "forgot password" , it asks me the challenge questions as I noted above.  I answered them, and received the same response as before, "Hmm... those answers don't seem to match", or something to that effect.  I then tried to create the "secure email key" as you requested, and it asks me for my password, which is apparently incorrect even though I'm signed in to my email.  How do I get "direct message" help. like the user above?  This has now been going on for days.

I apologize - I have a slight modification to the above.  I'm not signed into AT&T email right now as I thought - my AT&T email is being actively forwarded to my current email inbox.  Regardless, I still need access to get back in.  My challenge answers should be correct, but it's been so long since I opened this AT&T account - perhaps 25-30 years?, so I may be wrong.  Regardless, I need help to resolve this asap.  Thanks in advance.
