Unable to log into my Bellsouth.net email account

I recently noticed my bellsouth.net email account was no longer receiving emails. I tried to refresh the screen but it kept telling me that I needed to reenter my password. I did that but it is now on some kind of loop where it will log me in but immediately log me back out. On the currently.com screen it shows me as logged in but I am unable to check my email. The information on the account is outdated and I am unable to access the phone that is listed on there. Please help!

Hi there, jerniganjulie. We understand that you get a log in loop when you are trying to sign into your email. We can help with that.

There are a few things that we can do to help correct this loop.

  1. Clear the cache and cookies of the browser. This article will help you with most PC/Mac browsers and mobile browsers for phones and tablets.
  2. Reset the password. This will help resync the account.

There has been some enhancements when it comes to ATT/Yahoo/Currently.com email account and the devices or programs that we use. Let's talk about them now.

The first enhancement is called OAuth or Open Authentication. What OAuth is, is a permanent email authentication token that when used will log you in to your account via an email app and will keep you logged in unless the password gets reset or your account gets logged out.

The next enhancement is called a Secure Mail Key. The secure mail key is like a password, but it differs in may ways. Unlike passwords, which can be reset, the secure mail key is created and becomes permanent. It is longer then most passwords and is randomly generated. It also doesn't expire and it cannot be reset only deleted and recreated. These are used for email clients, such as Outlook. Here are some steps that will help you with the creation of the secure mail key:

  1. Go to Profile and choose Sign-in info.
  2. Select the email account that needs a secure mail key. (You’ll find a menu at the top if you have multiple accounts.)
  3. Scroll to Secure mail key and select Manage secure mail key.
  4. Choose the email address that you’d like to use, if you have more than one.
  5. Select Add secure mail key and then enter a nickname for the secure mail key to make it easier to recognize.
  6. Choose Create secure mail key.
  7. Select Copy secure mail key to clipboard. Make a note of your secure mail key, so you have it handy if you need to update an email app on several devices.
    • For security purposes, the secure mail key only displays until you select OK
    • If you lose or forget the secure mail key, you can create new secure mail keys.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Go to your preferred email app and replace the existing password with your secure mail key. For an IMAP account, delete the existing password for both the IMAP and SMTP servers and replace them with your secure mail key.

Try these things first and if they do not work for you, please let us know.

@jerniganjulie    Completely ignore that whole section of ATTHelp Matthew's comment after the part where he says:

2. Reset the password.  This will help resync the account.

Nothing after that applies to your situation at all.  🙄

I have cleared the cache, cookies, history and anything else I can clear. I have reset the password and that is where I get stuck. It is still doing the same thing. I can not get logged in to my email although it is saying I am logged in. This is very frustrating as so many of my accounts are linked to this email. No one seems to be able to help with this issue....

I seem to be having the same issues on Thunderbird. All of the sudden my PW doesn't work. I changed nothing. I think AT&T needs to look into this and give us an update.
