Cannot delete emails from inbox on Apple macbook laptop when using Apple email client
After highlighting emails to delete I use the delete button and the trash icon. However the emails don't delete. They go away for a moment then return to my inbox. I am able to receive and send emails but cannot delete. My inbox has over 2,000 emails. YIKES!

Call Apple Support. It's their product not AT&T's. When I delete an email from my InBox it goes directly to Mail Trash and stays there until I delete them from there. I usually hold on to a year's worth of emails before permanently deleting them. Nothing bounces back to my InBox once deleted to the Trash.
It sounds like you have your email configured wrong so that they are not deleted from the server end once they are downloaded to your Email Client.
