Cannot receive calendar invites that are sent from an Apple phone using the "[email scrubbed]" email service

Whenever someone sends a calendar invite from their apple phone, using the apple email service that shows up as sent from "[email scrubbed]", I am unable to receive it.  I am able to receive it if it is sent to my gmail email but it appears that my att.net email never receives them.  I suspect that the att.net server blocks them.

I use outlook on my computer and gmail on my phone.  I traced it to being an ATT. net server issue (hoted by Currently/Yahoo) as if I sign into my att,net account on the web, the invites are not in my inbox, spam, nor trash folders.  Is there a way to fix this?

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for your response and guidance. I understand that the Community Forums are designed for general support, and I appreciate your efforts.

The issue I'm experiencing is not specific to my account but seems to be affecting all ATT.net email users.

When someone sends a calendar invite from an Apple iPhone using the native calendar app, the email is sent from the Apple iCloud server with the no reply address of: "[email scrubbed]." It appears that the ATT.net server may be treating these invites as spam and blocking them.

This situation impacts all ATT.net users and iPhone users attempting to send calendar invites. The commonality is the use of the iCloud no-reply email "[email scrubbed]" address by the iCloud server. Notably, this issue does not occur when sending invites to Gmail addresses or other email servers not hosted by ATT.net.

I believe the ATT.net server may be interpreting the high volume of calendar invites from the same "[email scrubbed]" address as spam and subsequently blocking them. This leads to the invites not appearing in the recipients' inboxes, including mine.

To illustrate, anyone can replicate this issue by sending a calendar invite from an iPhone using the iCloud server to an ATT.net email address. The invite is not received, while the same process works successfully with Gmail and other email services.

I hope this clarification helps in addressing the broader concern affecting all ATT.net users. If there are specific actions or steps that can be taken to resolve this issue, please provide guidance.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Best regards,

Rick

Hey @RAG72,

We hear you, and we would like to suggest some troubleshooting steps which might help you with the email address on the calendar invites.

Create an email alias

  1. In Mail on iCloud.com, click  at the top of the Mailboxes list, then choose Settings.
  2. Click Account, then click Add Alias.
  3. Provide the requested information:
    • Alias Address: The text you provide becomes the email address (alias@icloud.com). An alias must contain between 3 and 20 characters.
    • Label: Aliases are listed alphabetically by label.
    • Full Name: The name you provide appears in the From field of the emails you send.
  4. Click Create.

Choose an email address to send Calendar invitations from

If you use more than one email address with Calendar, you can choose which address you want to use to send invitations.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
  2. Tap Show All, then tap iCloud Calendar.
  3. Tap Send & Receive, tap Send From, then choose an option from the pop-up menu.

Hope this helps! Feel free to revert for further assistance.

Hello Gary,

Thank you for your prompt response and the troubleshooting steps you provided. However, it's essential to clarify that my primary device is Android-based, and I predominantly access email via Outlook on my desktop computer.

While the solution you offered might help address calendar requests from specific senders under my control, such as my wife or children using iPhones, the larger issue persists. I am missing calendar invites from a multitude of individuals who use iPhones, and unfortunately, I do not have control over the devices they use.

This situation has far-reaching implications, affecting my ability to receive invites from parents at my kids' school, friends, family members, and practically anyone using an iPhone who relies on the native app, expecting it to function seamlessly, as it does on every other network that is not ATT.net.

The suggested approach of guiding each iPhone user through making changes on their personal devices is not practical, considering the widespread nature of this problem impacting all ATT.net users and iPhone users.

I urge your team to explore and address this root cause at the ATT server level.  Is there an ongoing investigation or plan to resolve this server-side issue affecting numerous users?  A collective resolution would be more efficient than expecting each affected user to individually manage this matter with their respective contacts.

Your continued assistance is greatly appreciated, and I hope for a resolution to this widespread concern.

Best regards,

Rick

Hello Gary,

Thank you for your continued attention to this matter. I understand the need for specific account-related information, but it's crucial to emphasize that this issue is not unique to my account. It appears to be a widespread problem affecting every iPhone user attempting to send calendar invites to ATT.net email addresses.

I have conducted tests using three different iPhones and three separate ATT.net email addresses, all resulting in the same problem. Therefore, characterizing this issue as "unique" could potentially mislead forum readers into thinking it's an isolated incident, which is not the case.

The pervasive nature of this problem extends beyond individual accounts, impacting not only iPhone users relying on the native calendar app but also every ATT.net customer expecting to receive it. As this issue affects a considerable portion of your user base, a collective investigation into the server-side root cause is essential to address the broader concern impacting both iPhone and ATT.net users.

I appreciate your understanding and look forward to a resolution that benefits all affected users.

Best regards,

Rick
