Lost access to sbcglobal.net email -- redirects to att.net account

I have two email addresses -- an att.net account which I never use and an sbcglobal.net account which is my primary account. Two days ago when accessing sbcglobal email through mail.yahoo.com it asked me to log in again (as it does from time to time -- no big deal) but this time it redirected me to the att.net inbox. I can see both accounts at the top in the pulldown menu with my name on it but when I try to select the sbcglobal.net account it pops me into the att.net inbox which is basically empty. I've had this account for 10+ years with no problem. I can still access my email on my phone (for now) but no longer can access through any browser on my desktop or laptop. I cleared all cache and also tried logging in from incognito mode. Still does the same thing!

So I just got off the phone with ATT and it took a while but they actually solved this problem. Apparently they changed the way you log in. KEY POINT HERE -- clear out all cache and cookies realted to ATT. Or if you want to try as an experiment, open a new browser window in incognito mode so ATT won't see all of your cookies from previous sessions. THEN -- go to att.net and your browser and it will redirect you to currently.att.com -- then you will see the "SIGN IN" button on the upper right. When I click on that, it takes me to the AT&T sign-in window where I *NORMALLY* would enter my AT&T global user ID. But don't do that -- instead enter your normal sbcglobal.net email address in the USER ID and then enter the sbcglobal.net password in the password box. That popped me back into the sbcglobal inbox. Problem solved! But if you have any cookies or cache in your browser from previous sessions this may not work. As I said, try the incognito mode first and see if that fixes your problem.

Hello,

I have not been able to get into my sbcglobal.net email since April 2023. My apple ID is THIS email address, so I must regain access to this email account. I need someone to give me simple step by step instructions on how to recover my account.

When I attempt to sign in,  it brings me to the screen "Enter the password for the account "Yahoo!" AT&T Select user ID prompt, which I select my correct user ID, which indicates right under my user ID that I am "signed in" so I click in my user ID, but it does nothing after that. It's the same screen, no matter what I do. It doesn't even look like a proper Yahoo! email sign-in, it looks like its trying to take me to an AT&T services account. I simply want my old email account back. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Maria,

Thank you for your quick response. I went through your step by step directions, and I still am unable to access my sbcglobal.net account. I would like to add photos to show you what my screen looks like as I did each step. But I'm having trouble uploading the 3 photos. I will try again....

Hi @TROUBLE_sbcglobal_net,

We understand that you are trying to access your email account. We'll be happy to assist you.

We recommend that you change your password, which is always the first step in recovering your email access. Once that is done, there is one last step that needs to be completed before you can reset your email back up and that is to create a secure mail key.

What is a Secure Mail Key? It is a 16-character one-time password used in email applications in lieu of an OAuth flow. So please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Profile and choose Sign-in info.
  2. Select the email account that needs a secure mail key. (You’ll find a menu at the top if you have multiple accounts.)
  3. Scroll to Secure mail key and select Manage secure mail key.
  4. Choose the email address that you’d like to use, if you have more than one.
  5. Select Add secure mail key and then enter a nickname for the secure mail key to make it easier to recognize.
  6. Choose Create secure mail key.
  7. Select Copy secure mail key to clipboard. Make a note of your secure mail key, so you have it handy if you need to update an email app on several devices.
    • For security purposes, the secure mail key only displays until you select OK
    • If you lose or forget the secure mail key, you can create new secure mail keys.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Go to your preferred email app and replace the existing password with your secure mail key. For an IMAP account, delete the existing password for both the IMAP and SMTP servers and replace them with your secure mail key.

If you are still getting the error, can you please provide the error number, when you try to access your email account online, so can we can troubleshoot and drive this to a complete resolution?

We do look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you for posting on the AT&T Community Forums.

I need professional help with regaining access to my [email scrubbed] account. This is my AppleID and I must regain access. I've been locked out of this email since 4/15/23. Hopefully you can come to my rescue!
