Trouble sending email from my POP3 on my iMAC email client

All of a sudden my emails won't send from my iMAC which has Sonoma 14 software. My att email is loaded as a POP3. It says that the server is offline and I can't get it back on line. Please help. I have tried changing the server address to no avail.

Hi @icgymnast! We completely understand your concern regarding sending emails, and would like to help. Let's get the assistance you require.

In order to fix this, we'd recommend you to follow this below mentioned basic troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshoot your email account, settings, and apps

AT&T Mail account and settings

  • Check your email size. If your email is too big, it may not be sent.
  • Be sure you’re using the correct recipient email address. If not, you may get error messages like Failed Delivery or Problem Found - Message Not Sent.
  • Try signing out of your email account and signing back in.
  • Check your spam folder for missing emails.
  • Review your settings. Select the gear icon, then check:
    • Blocked addresses: Be sure you aren’t blocking addresses you want to get email from.
    • Filters: Are emails going to the correct folder?
  • Check if your account has been hacked. Your account may be compromised if you’re:
    • Missing emails
    • Receiving emails from your own email address
    • Getting complaints about spam coming from your email address
    • Seeing a display name that's different from the one you set up

You can also visit Resolve email issues for more information.

Let us know if this helps.

Dear AT&T,

I checked everything. My incoming emails are getting in. It is my outgoing emails that aren't getting sent. When I check the status of the outgoing server for the POP3 AT&T settings on my computer it says "offline". No matter what address for an out going ATT server I use it says "offline". This happened all of a sudden and I didn't change any thing on my iMAC. This is very frustrating and I am beginning to dislike ATT email. I have had multiple problems in the past with this email set up. I need additional help.

@icgymnast  Make sure that your password for the outgoing mail server (SMTP) is still there, or just re-enter it. Sometimes the outgoing password, which should be the same as your incoming (POP) mail server gets lost or corrupted with an update. AT&T uses the Yahoo mail service which has lots of issues from time to time. I use a totally separate email server (which is also a POP account).

I have been using a secure key password for the POP3 because the apple mail application wouldn't allow me to use my regular password. I have reentered it many times to no avail. I am at my wits end here. Nothing is working. What email server do you use for the POP3? Would that still allow me to get my emails in my apple application?

@icgymnast  We kept the email service ($6 per month) from our old ISP when we moved to another state because I didn't want to go thru the hassle of notifying our important business accounts of an email change and our old provider did not have out-of-state service. Their email server is probably one of the best around and it is easy to work with, their Support is top notch and practically no spam ever reaches our In Box, it's all caught at the server level which we can review to see if anything that we want got caught, which rarely ever happens.

@icgymnast  There are probably other email services that are much better than AT&T/Yahoo that support POP3 so Google around. Email works seamlessly on my M1 MacBook Pro, M1 iPad, and iPhones.

I really don't want to change my email address. I have so much history with this email. Tons of people and websites that I have established accounts with  have this email address. It would be a huge hassle to change this. Thanks for the suggestion though.

@icgymnast  That's the exact reason why we didn't change our primary email address. Fortunately for us we had, and have, one of the most robust and modern email servers anywhere.
