Unable get messages through Mail on MacBook Pro 2012 OS Catalina or iPad 10th generation

I haven't been able to sign in to get messages for my two AT&T email accounts (I'm assuming all three but I only use two) on my MacBook Pro (Mac OS Catalina 10.5.7).  My laptop is where I keep my messages sorted into various folders (mailboxes). I've been using my iPad instead.  After reading responses on this site, I added a secure mail key to one of my accounts and now I can no longer get messages on my iPad.  My laptop still can not get messages even though I'm using the secure mail key as the password.  I can get my messages on my iPhone 12 and the AT&Ts mail server without using the secure mail key.

Does AT&T mail still work with MacOS Catalina? My main email address is what I use for all of my online billing.  How do I fix this?

Edit: I deleted the secure mail key (created in 2024) and I can now get messages on my iPad. (I had already created a secure mail key in 2019)

I keep getting an error message "Unable to verify account name or password".  Also, the checkbox for the outgoing TLS/SSL keeps clearing so that it's no longer checked.  I can successfully log into the AT&T mail server using the same email address and password without problem.

I also get the same error message when I create a secure mail key and enter it for my incoming and outgoing servers.

I can successfully use Mail on my iPad and iPhone but not MacBook Pro mid 2012 running Mac OS Catalina. I can’t upgrade my OS, it’s the latest, and last version that works with my Mac. I can successfully log into the mail server. I need my mail on my client so I can sort it into my mailboxes. I just started having this problem within the last couple of months, nothing has changed on my end. Mail started prompting me for my password on my primary account then said it couldn’t verify it. It started happening on my second account, which is a sub account email address to the primary, recently which is when I posted my first message on this forum. Due to AT&T using Yahoo servers, my email address is an alias for a Yahoo email address that I don’t use. (On a side note, a regular sender to my sub account email address is getting error messages. This has been going on since my primary account has had problems. I don’t know if this is a coincidence. My Mail issues shouldn’t be affecting the server.)
