All Incoming Calls Showing "Private Caller"

I recently purchased an ATT model CL82407 answering machine with four handsets. Went through the entire setup process. Added all my phone contacts. Set "Screen" to any call that doesn't display a name or number. And activated the Smart Call Block function. But every incoming call displays "Private Caller". Even those in my contact list.

What settings do I need to change to:

*  Block Robocalls

*  Screen calls without name or number and..

*  Allow calls from numbers in my contact list.

P.S. Is there a way to add numbers to the Allow list without having to enter them again?

Thank you,

Dean R.

Turn off call blocker and see if you still get the private caller message. If so report it to your provider. What do you mean by having to enter them again? If entered and saved they shouldn't go away unless you remove them.  When you review the lists is there anything in them?

Call Blocker is off. Still getting Private caller message. What exactly would my provider have to do with this? The only way to add contacts to the Allow list is to open Call Blocker and enter the contact into the Allow section. If you just add contacts to your list there is no way to come back later and add them to the Allow list. Nothing in Allow or Block lists. I've entered all my contacts using the (#)###.###.#### syntax.

Because your provider is who transmits the CID information to you. You state call blocker is off, which won't give you that message even if on. Just wanted to prove to you it wasn't the phone. Get a caller ID box or another phone with CID and see what you get. Has nothing to do with the directory or allow list.

Page 68 of the manual tells you what that message means. If you have digital service you might try resetting the modem incase there's a glitch.

Page 68 does not mention Private Callers. It describes how to screen Uncategorized Calls, Allow Call Once or Always Allow.

Page 68 of online manual found here. You need to look through the manual to see all the information, not just pick a few pages. You can do as suggested or not, the choice is yours. You've yet to tell us what type of service you have. Digital? Traditional landline (POTS)? Wireless home phone? VoIP, Ooma, Vonage, Magic Jack? We don't know if you don't tell us.

MY phone and TV service is through AT&T. That is why I posted here. Not obvious enough for you, I guess? The phone is a landline. And I've never had this issue with other answering machines. Also, I read the paper manual provided with the phone ~ cover to cover TUVM. Why would I expect the online copy to be different? But I'll certainly look into it.
