AT&T corded 2-line speakerphone model 993 doesn't show area code

I was just given an older phone and got the manual online. I have followed directions to show the local area code for incoming calls, but it doesn't show it on either line. This is especially needed for when I want to dial a phone number from the caller id list. (How to do that is confusing, though...)

Also, does anyone know how to turn off the red lights which indicate new call on each line?

Thanx

Not sure where you're looking in the manual, but the incoming CID will be what the phone company supplies, unless you change the information in the call directory. This is pretty much the standard way they work, I didn't look specifically at the manual for this phone.  The lights are so you know which line is ringing or in use, so not sure why you wouldn't want them to work, unless you're only using one line and if that's the case there should be someplace in programming telling you how to disable the line you're not using.

The poster was asking about how to turn off he "new Call" lights for both lines. I don't have voicemail set up through phone company, so there aren't any "new Calls," so these don't flash, but stay solid red. Is there any way to turn off these lights?

Also, I have my Line 2 set as default line. Usually, Line 1 has no lights lit up unless someone is on that line on another phone instrument. Recently, however, the red light (indicating that line 1 is in use) either flickers on and off or even stays solid -- when line is NOT in use. Also, does anyone know how to turn off the red lights which indicate new call on each line? I can't find any support on this. Do you have any ideas? Thanx

New call light is just that, you've had calls that weren't answered and are stored in the call history to clear them you'll need to clear call history. You could also turn off the phone company voicemail since you don't use it, page 24 and 25 of the manual. New call, call history pages 52 and 53. Manual found here. If you'll note on the original topic of over a year ago that you commented on, it was stated that I didn't check the manual, as the OP said they had the manual.

Thank you so much. That cleared the New Call lights. (I don't use voicemail from phone company.)

However, do you know anything about my other question:

I have my Line 2 set as default line. Usually, Line 1 has no lights lit up unless someone is on that line on another phone instrument. Recently, however, the red light (indicating that line 1 is in use) either flickers on and off or even stays solid -- when line is NOT in use. The phone cord is not impinged.

Thank you.

What type service do you have on line 1? Digital like U-verse, traditional landline (POTS), Wireless home phone, or something else, like magic jack?

First start a new topic providing the make and model of phone and what phone service you're using.  Second CID is provided by the phone company nothing you can fix unless the phone went bad.

Do any of the star codes work on the ATT 993?
