Digital phone voicemail

Follow the link for steps below to set up voicemail from your home phone -

1. Dial *98 from your home phone.
2. Choose a Personal Identification Number (PIN) between 6 and 10 digits.
   • Enter your PIN followed by the # sign.
   • Re-enter your PIN followed by the # sign.
3. Follow the instructions and set up your 8-digit authentication code.
4. Say your name after the tone when prompted, and press #.
   • To save as your greeting, press 1.
   • To record again, press 2.
5. Follow the prompts to record a personal greeting. You can use a pre-recorded system greeting.

You can now use your mailbox. Use the authentication code if you forget your PIN or when you need to reset your PIN.

Tried that, doesn't work.  Also asked about reset options.  Att tech said make an att.net account for unknown reasons.  Don't want att.net account.  Vm page on att.com looks old dated and asks about wireless phone which should not have anything to do with home phone.  Att has had terrible support and now it woul appear they are (are still?) Listing vm as a feature on home digital phones when it does not work.
