Landline service to internet voice service questions

I ordered a change to my phone service last night and now I'm having second thoughts. I switched my landline service to internet voice service. It will take a week for this to complete and I chose self installation. While looking at the directions, it shows an ethernet cable running from my AT&T modem to a desktop computer. Is this a permeant thing to get internet voice service? If so, I will have to cancel as my desktop computer is 2 rooms away from my modem and I can't run a cable through my house for this. Hope I made this clear. Also, since it's within the first 24 hours of ordering, can I cancel this? How?

Thank you for your comments.

You do not have to have a computer connected to the BGW210.  Just connect the telephone to the  "Phone Lines 1&2" jack instead of the wall jack.  If you have phones throughout your home (other than a cordless system), then getting that wired correctly is a bit more complicated and unless you're comfortable with what needs to be done, is best done professionally.  If you only have a single phone that can sit next to your BGW210, or the base of a cordless phone system that can sit there, then self installation should be a breeze.

(To activate all your jacks in the home with the new VOIP AT&T Phone service, you will need to disconnect your home wiring from the POTS wiring at the NID.  This is the part where an installer would be handy.)

If you look at the back there’s a jack marked “phone”.

I have digital phone service and I just have a phone connection from my base unit to the modem.  But then again, I already had a laptop connected to the modem.  🤷‍♀️

Edit:  How is the desktop hooked up to your modem?

SJKETERINTEXAS: My desktop is not hooked up to the modem. The modem is my wifi.

JefferMC: Thank you!
