phoneline easement question (who to contact)
Hello,
I have a property in Indiana that I have tried for months to get information about an old easement that seems to not be existent anymore. The easement found by my lawyer is from 1967 saying AT&T has easement rights. I am looking to build a sand and gravel plant. From Indiana 811's Automated Positive Response System from this year does not state AT&T on this easement. I am looking on who to contact from AT&T to make sure that you are aware of a sand and gravel plant being built on this site (if AT&T still has an easement at all) and that I can move forward without issue. I have already contacted everyone from the county and anyone who may know about such easements, but it has led to unclear information since it was such long ago and the easement may be gone now.
Thank you.

1967 would have been MA BELL aka AT&T Corporation which was broken up be the US government into (7) baby bells in 1982. Indiana would have been one of the five states of Ameritech.
Over the next 20 years many more rural areas were sold off from Ameritech to CenturyLink (Lumen), Fairpoint and Frontier.
Ameritech was purchased by SBC Corporation in 1999.
SBC Corporation purchased what was left of AT&T Corporation in 2005 then renamed SBC to AT&T Incorporated.
The question now is which company would hold the easement from 1967… who is the ILEC for the zip code?
That is likely who would have the easement.

Your local governing authority controls the size and placement of easements, but since you've already talked to them you can try the Business Forum and click on business apps and solutions, that's where you'll find engineering. You'll most likely have to re-register since it's a different forum.
