AT&T related help: Self-install Phone

Where to get step-by-step help for VOIP phone installation?

I got AT&T Fiber a week ago with VOIP home phone service (previously had AT&T landline on copper wires, but lines are badly degraded, terrible sound quality, so switching to VOIP). Internet is working great, but the process of getting VOIP phone service set up has been painful. I was told by AT&T reps to just "buy a VOIP phone" and plug it in to the Phone port of the AT&T modem. (I know nothing about VOIP, and finding relevant help on the AT&T website has been difficult -- a lot of the info seems to apply to other services). Anyway, I bought a Grandstream DP750 DECT VoIP Base Station (and a handset) from Amazon, went to plug it in, but the cable from the base station is Ethernet, and the connector is too big to plug into the Phone port of my AT&T modem. Do I have to buy a different phone, or is there a way to make this base station work? How would I know when buying a VOIP phone if it has the right kind of connector? Where can I find better instructions on how to set up a VOIP home phone with AT&T Fiber?

Never mind -- problem solved. Turns out we can just plug our old analog phones right into the phone jack in the gateway (thanks to r/voip on Reddit for the clarification). So why did *both* the AT&T installation tech and AT&T phone support tell us that we needed VoIP phones??

Can anyone tell me why quote doesn't work any more? You hit quote and it pastes the whole original topic.

Anyway @chad2023 "So why did *both* the AT&T installation tech and AT&T phone support tell us that we needed VoIP phones??" Poor or lack of training. A true VoIP phone plugs into an Ethernet port and usually is connected to a server using SIP trunks.
