3rd Party Messaging Apps and Data Usage

HI, I use a 3rd party Messaging app for my sms and I was wondering if it applies to data usage. The app is called QKSMS

I’d be happy to help with your app usage! QKSMS uses standard text messaging methods, and would not use any data when sending standard texts. As with all SMS apps, sending group messages or MMS will result in data use as both require data in order to function.

and will any/all 3d party messaging apps show in the text history?  and how do you know it was a 3d party appy that sent a text to your phone?  I got some 14 digit origination for a text I have no idea what it is??
