ATT Prepaid Overseas Access

I currently have the AT&T $65 Unlimited Monthly Prepaid Plan and am going overseas for several months. Previously when I have been overseas I have not been able to receive text or calls to my US number when banks have attempted to send one time codes for example.

I will have an international esim in my phone so I will have access to data, as well as access to wifi at accomodation. I have been reading that if within my iphone > settings > cellular >wifi calling i switch the setting from off to on I will then be able to receive incoming texts and calls from US numbers and any one time codes sent to my US number from banks and alike. Is this correct and will this work on my specific prepaid plan?

Prepaid plan does not have roaming ability (no service).  You would have no AT&T cellular service unless you're in a country that allows the $35 add-on. If you're in a covered country you would be able to access your account, add and pay for the $35 add-on in that country.

Or you have to bring a phone already set up and working with Wi-Fi calling in the United States.  You cannot set up Wi-Fi calling outside of the United States.

A handful of countries do not permit Wi-Fi calling :

China, Saudi Arabia, India, Turkey, Israel, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Pakistan, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.

Please test your phone for Wi-Fi calling before you leave the USA. You do this by turning on airplane mode, turning Wi-Fi back on and see if you can make phone calls, make and receive text messages.

What country and what plan?  For repaid you have to be on a specific $35 for 7 days to roam outside of the U.S.  Also, prepaid roaming is allowed in only a few countries.

I am on the AT&T $65 Unlimited Monthly Prepaid Plan and will be travelling throughout Europe oversea several months 10+ countries.

I am not planning on using data roaming at all on my US number with AT&T -  I will have an international esim with data that I will use. I want to know if by turning WiFi Calling setting I will be able to receive text messages to my US number when I have esim data or wifi

Hi mp666! We are here to help you with your International Text message inquiry!

There is no charge for incoming texts but any sent texts, calls or data use pays international roaming rates. Either turn data roaming off or get an international plan. If you have prepaid service, prepaid does not roam internationally except Canada, Mexico and select European countries.

Apart from the International Day Pass we do have the Pay per use, confirm your destinations and available services there. Learn how to add Prepaid International travel add-ons by following steps under 'how to get.' Also, learn more about the wireless AT&T Passport for International travel which includes unlimited texting to some of your destinations.

Let us know if this helps!
