Data overage on phone, but data is turned off

our family of four share a data plan, and it works fine for us for months.  All of a sudden, within just 15 minutes, I got three texts saying that our gigs were 50%, then 75% and then over. Each text was 5 minutes apart.  The phone that was "over" is my sons, and he was at school.  Even though there was no way he was using it, I turned his data off.  Now I wake up today, to a text saying it's over again.  How is that possible, when his data is turned off, and  he can only use wifi?

How and when did you turn his data off?

Data can take hours to report from towers to ATT computers.

Even after you turn data off on his line, data previously used will report back.

take a good look at his phone.  It may be faulty or have a faulty app.  Or he may have wifi off in error or left an app running in the background.

We got the first texts last week, on June 7th, and I turned off his date immediately.  We got a new text today, saying our additional Gb of shared data is at 75%.  His phone is just a few months old, and we never had any overages the first few months.

Oh, and I turned off his data by signing into myatt and turning it off there.

So his data is off, is EVERYONE's data off?

The rest of the family is sharing whatever is left of the 1 GB of overage data (after all you were already over 10 days ago)

You would all have to turn data off to not use more data.

Our usage was higher last month too.

We usually use 15 GBs.  But last month we used 24 GBs of data. Don't know why, but we did and the phones back it up.

This month we have used far, far less and won't even hit 10 GBs.

The overage is only showing on his phone number. The rest of us, have not used much at all, and definitely not used the entire additional Gb we were charged.

Ummmm, your telling me in the last 10 days no other phones used data?   When his data was turned off?

Just because he used the lions share does not mean the second overage is his fault.  The rest of the lines, no matter how little they used together, are responsible for using the rest of the data for 10 days.

I looked at the usage and the pie chart, and my sons number was at 67% usage for the new Gb for our entire shared plan.  My question is why the heck is it showing that, when his data is off.  The rest of us are barely using anything.  I just turned all our data off, until I can get to att and get this figured out.   The usage shows which number is using what percent of data.  I'm not blaming him, since I know the data is off.

The pie chart is good for viewing totals, for the entire cycle. I would go into each individual line, select data, and then sort by date to chronologically look as the usage from today going backwards.

Yeah, the pie chart is total usage for all the data, including the overage data.

Look at the details for the other lines since the 7th.   For the last 10 days, the rest of the family used up the 1 GBs overage.   After all, your sons data was off.
