Email-to-text not working properly/timely

For several months now, sending emails to AT&T devices via ########## @txt.att.net or ########## @mms.att.net have either not gone through at all (no kickback on the email server, just not received on the device texted), or been received days later. The service sending the email-to-text simultaneously sends these to Verizon numbers, and those customers receive the messages immediately.

Our Fire Department uses an app called I Am Responding and a function of that uses email-to-text to notify members of calls for service and other emergency messages. This purpose is defeated if they never receive the texts or receive them hours or days after the fact. Looking for a solution here.

Hi @jpell2064, we understand that you’ve been experiencing issues with email-to-text service for several months now. We know this is causing inconvenience and frustration, especially since it’s affecting the emergency notifications of your fire department.

In order to help you with you're concern, we'd like to know a bit more of what's happening :

  1.   Are you following the steps to do email-to-text as outlined in this article?
  2.   Is this an issue with every person you try to contact, or is it an issue with only one recipient?
  3.   How long this has this been going on?
  4.   Have you tried clearing the cache and data on your messaging app?

Reach back to us with more specific details to help determine the cause. We'll have a better idea of how to proceed.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Afternoon, sorry for the delay in reply:

  1.   Are you following the steps to do email-to-text as outlined in this article?
    1. Yes, that's how we have it set up
  2.   Is this an issue with every person you try to contact, or is it an issue with only one recipient?
    1. I'm responsible for the message deliver to only four of our members, right now two of them aren't receiving the messages, the other two are. The two that aren't are using AT&T's service, the other two that are are on Verizon.
  3.   How long this has this been going on?
    1. This has been happening for a few months, I can't pinpoint exactly when it started.
  4.   Have you tried clearing the cache and data on your messaging app?
    1. I don't have direct access to that, all i have the ability to do is tell the app where the messages should go.

Hello @jpell2064,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We understand your concern regarding the email-to-text, we will be glad to help.

Our first recommendation would be to use this resource to perform a reset of your network settings. Please make sure that you have the correct device make and model selected. Doing so refreshes the network connection.

Our second recommendation would be to troubleshoot the email-to-text process.

About email addresses of AT&T wireless numbers
Every AT&T wireless number has a corresponding email address. You can email that address and have it delivered to the device as a text, picture, or video message. Likewise, you can send a text, picture, or video message to any email address from your wireless device.

Send an email as text to an AT&T wireless number
You can compose a new email message and send a text, picture, or video message to a wireless number.

1)Text message - Compose a new email and enter the recipient's 10-digit wireless number, followed by @txt.att.net. For example, 5551234567@txt.att.net.
2)Picture or video message - Compose a new email and enter the recipient's 10-digit wireless number, followed by @mms.att.net. For example, 5551234567@mms.att.net.

Heads up: Don't include dashes or spaces in between the numbers.

Also, make sure the message your sending (text and image) isn't exceeding the size requirement of 1 MB.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks so much for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums!

I am with a fire department in Wisconsin and our AT&T members have all been suffering from the same issue. I believe its been happening since about August of 2023. There are times I get the messages 1 hour late, and most of the time it is at least a day or more late. I can get regular messages from friends and family instantly, but for some reason this @txt.att.net is WAY later.

Hi there, thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

We hear you and understand your concern. We're here to help you.

Is the issue with one particular email or all the emails?

Can you try to send an email to text from your email address and check if it's working faster?

Here is the link for your reference.
