Our "unlimited " data got so slow and stopped working at times immediately after upgrading phones

We have been with at&t for about 10 years. We have been on the "unlimited " data plan for the past couple years. For the past year we have been able to use our hot spot consistently for everything. We used it on our TV for Netflix and on our computer for internet any time we wanted. It worked fantastic all of the time and we loved it. We recently went in to upgrade our phones and immediately after upgrading our data got very slow and then after about a week it stopped working all together. Nothing changed in our plan nor did our usage so this makes no sense. We called customer service and were told it was because we used too much data. We asked if they could check our data usage history to compare if we used more than previous months and they said yes then magically could not access it at this time and when we explained that we are doing nothing differently than we have the past year and it worked perfectly until we upgraded we just told " they didn't know why it worked fine before but we are using too much data" so basically they just told us to deal with. I am 100% convinced they switched something with our service without our knowledge. After our contract is up we will be switching to a new carrier after 10 loyal years with at&t

If you are saying your hotspot data quit working, that is because there is a 10GB limit on hotspot usage each month. That limit has always been there, it just wasn’t enforced. ATT just recently started enforcing. That 10GB limit is per device. If you have multiple phones, you can switch to another phone when one reaches its limit. You can also switch to the current unlimited plan, it raises the hotspot limit to 15GB per device.

The limits of your hotspot were always 10 gigs on phones and tablets, per the plan ATT advertised and you signed up for.  I don’t lnow why ATT did not enforce till now.

No. It's more likely it was a timing coincidence. (You can see there was no change on your bills)

Your unlimited plan only came with 10GB of hotspot data. You've been exceeding that 10GB limit (it sounds like it's been by A LOT) and they're now enforcing it. After 10GB it slows to a pretty much unusable speed.
