Secure Family blocks all internet with no restrictions set

When I pair my son's phone, it flashes several screens and has me turn on location, etc and once it says it is done, all internet access is disabled. Can't check why as it won't let him view the VPN. I have to un-pair for him to use the internet. I have it set with no restrictions. On top of this, while it is unpaired, I keep getting the notification that I haven't paired his phone yet. I would like to, but the software is broken so I can't.
