SSH connection via remote proxy fails

I have an Unlimited Choice plan with 5 lines - 3 phones, 1 USB modem Netgear Momentum AirCard 313U, and 1 Netgear AT&T Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G AirCard 754S. I used the USB modem with my laptop for remote access to a number of Raspberry Pis via the remot3.it service. Remot3 works similar to Teamviewer, and essentially provides a proxy (e.g. proxy8.yoics.net) and random port (e.g. 34256) for SSH traffic to bypass firewalls and NATs. It worked OK until recently, and now I get a message that network connection cannot be established or got reset by peer every time I try it. It just looks like the SSH protocol or ports provided by the remot3 service are blocked.

Does anyone have an idea if AT&T started blocking ports for Unlimited Choice accounts? What should I do to make the service work again? Would switching to Unlimited&More help or should I switch to some other plan?

Hello Kenneth,

Although I was sure that the issue had nothing to do with the modem itself, I double-checked the Netgear community just in case. As expected, it was quite useless. This is not about connecting one hotspot to another, it is about interacting with some Internet online service.

In general, I do not have a problem with my Aircard 313U - it is well recognized by Windows, I can browse, use FTP, and connect to remote computers using TeamViewer. I have always had a problem with remote desktop connection via AT&T wireless ( RDP error: Because of a protocol error detected at the client code 0x1104 this session will be disconnected). I was not very concerned about that as far as I could use SSH via remote proxy (namely 'remot3.it' online service) to control my remote Raspberry PIs, which I had no problem with until I switched from a 15G shared account to the Unlimited one.

Unfortunately, when I tried that SSH connection again last week, I only got messages that network connection either cannot be established or got reset by peer. I still have no problem using 'remot3.it' via Verizon FiOS or Verizon 4G/LTE hotspot; that is why I think that the error is caused by the way AT&T treats the Unlimited Share accounts, e.g. either blocks ports or prohibits the use of SSH completely.

So, the question still stands: is that behavior typical just for the Unlimited account (and therefore can be fixed by switching to a different account type) or is it a manifestation of some general AT&T policy?
