text messages stopped working at AT&T, tried to switch carrier and phone but they are still not sending to and from AT&T customers

Hello all

we were customers of AT&T for many years. Texts stopped sending to and from my phone, without any notification. When my wife tried to text me, it showed as failed.

We tried to troubleshoot with AT&T but they were not successful to solve the issue in 2 days

to maintain my business, I tried to switch to T-Mobile.  I got a new phone as well. Texting continued not to work until T-Mobile said I was on a block list.  They unblocked me in 3 days and I continue to have issues when texting AT&T customers (so it seems). I still cannot send messages with my wife and other friends at AT&T

we escalated the ticket but it's been days and there's not much resolution, I think they are still working on it

my wife is still an AT&T customer

any help appreciated

So text messages stopped working on AT&T. You switched your phone number to T-Mobile and got a new phone and you still have the same problem?

If you're not an AT&T customer anymore, this isn't an AT&T problem anymore. I'm not sure why you're having text issues, but it's now T-Mobile's problem to solve.

Hello @thevalemonts, thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums. We'll be happy to help you

We want to provide more information on what's causing you not able to send or receive the text messages. Before we get started, let us start with few question to under the concern better.

  •  Please let us know, while you send text to other carrier except AT&T, are you able to send and receive text?
  • What error messages does your wife receive, while sending text message?

NOTE: If you've just ported out of AT&T to different carrier, you'll not be able to send or receive any text messages for 24-48 hours.

In the mean time, you can use our outage dashboard to see if there's an ongoing service event in your area, but in the meantime, here are some other things you can try:

  • Set up Wi-Fi Calling, so that you can talk and text when connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Reset your network settings.
    • For Android: go to Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Reset network settings.
    • For iPhone: go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums,

My husband has AT&T and I have T-Mobile. We're having the same issue. I only get some of his text messages. Mostly pictures these days. He is the only person I'm having texting issues with. He doesn't get any error messages and when he looks at the text info, it says sent but I don't get them. It's like they get stuck in limbo. I just changed my SIM card to see if maybe it was a T-Mobile problem but I think it might be an AT&T problem.

Edit: My husband restarted his phone and turned off advanced messaging and I started getting his messages again. Have your wife check her settings and see if hers is on and if it is, have her turn it off and see whay happens.
