Upgrading to Another Prepaid Mobile Hotspot Plan

I am currently a couple of months into my fully paid prepaid $300 20GB 12 Mo. Mobile Hotspot/Tablet Plan.

I am considering upgrading to the prepaid $55 50GB Mo Mobile Hotspot/Tablet Plan.

In upgrading to another prepaid plan, will the unused portion of my existing plan be applied toward the purchase of the new plan?

No! Don't change plans until the end of the plan you purchased, which would be 10 months down the road.

If you log into your account and look at your balance it will show zero. Your $300 was used to pay for a full Year's worth of service and you are locked into that plan. If you change your plan you will lose the other $250 you have paid for the years service.

I know that if you change your plan on the phone website it warns you that you're in danger of losing your existing plan and we'll have to pay for the new one to resume service.  I don't know what it will look like on the data only side, but this is the warning that cell phone users get

Thank you for the excellent response to the concern I had, and the clear explanation of the way the plan works. Your reply has been very helpful. Thanks.
