Cancelling landline service
On Feb 1, 2024 my cellular carrier requested a porting of my landline phone number to the cellular carrier. Do I need to contact AT&T to stop further bills or does that happen automatically?

Once it's ported and working you still need to contact AT&T to cancel service, only cell to cell ports automatically cancel service.

I called ATT and was told that billing would be until the disconnect went through and that I'd get a Master Card credit (!) for the unused portion of the month. Slight issue in that I get ported on Feb 2 but ATT didn't recognize it until Feb 5 due to the weekend I guess, but that's small change. And I'll be glad to be rid of ATT forever!

You never want to cancel until you're positive the port is complete.
