POTS line cancellation
Just cancelled our POTS line service and ported to a VOIP service. I have seen the horror stories about cancelling but all I did was call, explain what I wanted, put on hold a couple of minutes and it was done.
And yes I waited until the port was complete before I cancelled.
Was it really this easy or will it come back to haunt me?

Only time will tell. If you canceled through the retentions/loyalty group you should be good.

I guess it was that easy. Account now shows cancelled and a refund to follow. Awesome!

Nice to see that it can work.

Calling to cancel after the successful port was likely unnecessary, superfluous, redundant overkill. But it also apparently didn't cause any issues.
I ported from POTS to VOIP 2-3 years ago and the POTS account was cancelled automatically, just as expected.

I'm not sure if it's the area you're in or the person doing the porting, but we've had many topics on accounts that weren't cancelled after a port as the posters were expecting exactly what you experienced @JefferMC yet they kept being billed months after. Needed or not on POTS service I would recommend calling after the port to cancel service just to be on the safe side. I know cell to cell the service is cancelled after the port. Don't know as I've seen any post on AT&T Phone that didn't cancel after a port. Anyway, it's just nice to see something that worked.

And that was my reason for manually cancelling the POTS line and LD service as I had seen many reports online of porting not generating a cancellation.
Maybe if you switch to AT&T VOIP they automatically cancel the POTS line, but that's not what I did.
Either way, waste of time, overkill, or whatever, I don't care as it's done.

I requested that my POTS # be changed it took much time and effort. Finally done except now I can't find an account for my new POTS # online. Not sure what to do? I know there will be a bill next month. Not sure if it will come in the snailmail or not? Any suggestions folks?

While related in that it has to do with POTS, it's otherwise not. I hope you created your own thread.

All done! Received the refund in a Mastercard prepaid card, which is a little odd but whatever.

That's the way they're doing it these days. AT&T purchases the card from the bank at a discounted rate and the bank hopes to make the discount back on expiring cards and maintenance fees. I advise people to convert it into a gift card at your favorite online merchant as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of forgetting and to avoid merchants that struggle with prepaid debit cards for various reasons.
