traditional landline

I am wanting a traditional landline, not any internet or digital.  Called and spoke with 5 reps yesterday and got the run around.  A manager was to call me back last night and no one called me.  I used to have service with AT & T.  Our household has a direct TV account with AT & T, but I want a separate account for the landline.  I am interested in prices also.  I would like to have a call back by a management person on 918 876 2803.

You should not expect a call back from AT&T as a result of your post.  However, you may get a rash of unsolicited marketing calls due to posting your phone number on a public forum like this.

ATThelp may respond to your post with an offer to have a Direct Message conversation with you.  Keep your eyes out for that notice here (and a speech balloon with a red dot in the upper margin on the right of these forum pages when you are logged in).

However, AT&T does not want to start Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) lines anymore.  Where they are not required to, they just won't do it.  Where they are required to, they'll seek to delay and avoid doing so.  And they will charge you an outlandish monthly rate to do so.  I would suggest you do something else, either VOIP or Wireless/Cellular.

Community Phone

BBB Grade A
Customer Reviews Great

Why We Picked It

Community Phone is a good alternative for those who don’t want or need an internet connection. Community Phone uses a landline base that uses cell signals to connect to towers near a home. You can keep your existing phone number, if you want. Community Phone costs $32 a month and has a battery backup so you will continue to have service even if the power goes out.

The landline base comes with a $99 deposit cost , and Community Phone doesn’t work with medical alert systems or home security systems, which might still need landline connections, though many can connect through the internet.

Pros & Cons
  • Uses a backup battery if power goes out
  • Does not require internet connection
  • No contracts
  • Equipment costs $99
  • No caller ID
  • International calls not included
Best Landline Plans Community Phone Offers
  • Community Phone Unlimited Local and Long-distance Calling
  • Community Phone Unlimited Local and Long-distance Calling Plan
  • Community Phone offers just one plan, an unlimited local and long-distance plan for $32 a month.

Community Phone has partnered with nationwide carriers to provide coverage even in rural areas. You can make international calls with Community Phone, however, those calls get billed at international rates. Also, if you use 411 directory assistance, you will incur a cost of $2.39 a minute.

In addition to their VOIP service, Ooma also offers a similar product for a slightly lower monthly fee, and comparable equipment fee.  It does include caller id.

Well, you still can get POTS or the traditional phone line via calling in, but it will be difficult. Just ask to reach for the Telco department, and insist it's for a traditional landline, and not a home phone (which may sound ironic but in AT&T land, means two different things).

I've been waiting a couple of months for a manager call back. There have been five calls, each ending with my supervisor will call you back shortly. Well, that has never happened. I too have been given the run around, spoken to countless so called customer service reps and had a few hang up on me. As of this morning, I had one cut me off and one who's solution was to take pictures of my equipment and find an AT&T store to see if they can help me.

History: This al started because we discovered that our home phone line wasn't working. It is dedicated line for a security system. I started by requesting a tech to come out to troubleshoot it. Was told that they will not do that. Made several more calls and was told that the scheduling department would call me to schedule. Never happened. A few more calls, and I was told that I needed to reestablish service. This brings me to today. I tried to do just that and was told that they can not help me unless I add internet or TV to my account????? When I told them to come and get their equipment, they said that i would again need togo to the AT&T store to request that. I was told to just take it and dump it. (Edited per community guidelines)??

My main issue is with the customer service department and lack of customer service. Every call tried to upgrade me to another service even after my voicing my frustration with AT&T.
