Cannot unlock phone

Recently paid off my iPhone early 3 days ago and wanted to give it to my mother who has T-Mobile. Went to the att unlock website and submitted the form as non customer and get the message I need to 60 days post purchase to unlock. Then tried again as current customer and put my info in and get an error that does not match records. Even though I have put all my info in correctly as listed on att account, I meet the unlock requirements. Paid it off early, waited more than 48 hours to submit a request and nothing works. I am in no way going to wait 60 days to use a phone I own and paid already.

Well 60 days is one of the requirements for new accounts.  If you did not want to wait 60 days you should have purchased your phone SIM free directly from Apple.

How is it a new account though? Have had my account for 3 years. Phone was on installment for 2 years. I paid it off early with only 20% remaining due. And waited 48 hours to submit a request to unlock.

Hey Alan!

There's a few criteria that need to be met before AT&T will unlock a device:

  • Must be an AT&T Phone or Device
  • Must be 60 days from Original Purchase (Not Device Payoff)
  • Cannot be reported as lost or stolen or involved with Fraud
  • Account is not past due more than 30 days

It sounds like all of this criteria was met, and the sixty day period is not from payoff. If you already upgraded your phone, and the device unlock is still pending, you may need to contact Customer Care for a manual review. When you do the online form and put it your phone number as an AT&T customer, it will try to unlock the device active on that number, so if the device no longer has service with AT&T, you will need to submit the request as a non-customer using the IMEI.
