Complaint: Why is the company sending out disinformation about reasons for orders being cancelled.

Early February  I ordered an AT&T cell booster -  from AT&T online  (myAT&T).  The order went through.   I had been anticipating it because the reception in my apartment is lousy, not sure why because people with sprint have no problem in my apartment.

I did not get the booster and went to my account to check status.    The status is "Status:  For your security, we canceled your order. We couldn't confirm this order came from you."
I called customer service to understand the issue.  Customer service says that the message is incorrect.  the real problem is "AT&T does not have any more of these in stock".    If this is the case why is AT&T sending me misinformation about security etc? It makes me concerned about my credit card, has my account been hacked, etc.   Customer service then goes on to tell me I can go to a 3rd party to get this same booster, I ask him which one - the guy was totally confused.
Needless to say, I still have one bar, I wasted lots of time, I spoke to a clueless customer service person...  I am one booster away from dropping AT&T's terrible  service.

Hello, @I_hate_the_bad_service! That is not the experience we want you have.

Any payment received is secure, and since the order was cancelled, any payment made will be refunded back in 7 to 10 business days!

We understand how frustrating it is for your order to be cancelled, and how much you were looking forward to the Cell Booster. Please be advised that while you are at home, you can switch to Wi-Fi which should allow calls and texts to go through.

We hope this information helps, and please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!

Are you kidding me?

The point is that AT&T is out of stock of a product on the AT&T order page - however there is no indication that it is out of stock.

I did not receive an email or text message that it is out of stock - so I was waiting for it - I wasted time.

The  status message on the myAT&T page,  just says that "the order was cancelled for security reason etc...".   It does not say that AT&T is  no longer sells or does not have in stock.  I couldn't figure out which one because the customer service person didn't know - he just told me to go to a store like Target  to find one.  Really? Why is it still advertised in the AT&T online store?

AT&T has lousy customer service and lously signal reception!

AT&t's advertised 'cell booster' is a misnomer.

It is not a cell booster it is a microcell, much like the old model.  It requires wired home internet in order to function. If you have wired home internet you don't need the cell booster you can just turn on Wi-Fi calling.  If you do not have wired home Internet there's no point in ordering this device as it cannot work.

As for the notification;  Don't you think it might be possible that the original reason for canceling is true. And between the time the order was canceled,  they sent out that notification, and the time that you called in, they indeed were sold out of microcells?

The booster has a 3.5 out of 5 rating.  They are not the reliable solution the old 3g m-cell was.  Some say iPhone 13 won't connect to use it.  Others complain that they cannot limit connection because this device will allow any AT&T phone to connect and use it.

Limit 8 users.

Are you saying that AT&T's advertised 'cell booster' is really a micro cell?   Are you suggesting that I missed the notification that was never sent?  Too much effort on this.  I'm done.  Time to dump AT&T. Thanks for all of the input from everyone.

Are you saying that AT&T's advertised 'cell booster' is really a micro cell?

Yes.  Exactly as it indicates.  It requires internet service, and is just an LTE microcell.

Are you suggesting that I missed the notification that was never sent?

No.  I'm saying they canceled because they couldn't verify identity.

When you called, they no longer had any.  They have been in and out of stock several times in the past year.

Cell booster only need electricity and an indoor and outdoor antenna.

Network extenders/microcell require Internet.  If you have internet you don't need one. That's what Wi-Fi calling is for.

What if we actually need a Microcell. I'm in the position at fedex where our mobile computers must be connected to the AT&T network for it to correctly authenticate and operate (send/receive) data. I can tether to my cellphone's hotspot just fine, but some feature's on our mobile computer's system do not work because it's going through a regular hotspot and not a "cellular (authenticated)" connection. I'm inside and around giant metal buildings and various radar's etc that cause absolute havoc for the AT&T signal out there.

So I guess the point I'M trying to get to, is this device still available and how do I obtain one or should I just forget the whole thing? I have a Cel-Fi booster that can handle AT&T's 4G network, but the mobile computers don't seem to want to work off the boosted signal. So I'm at a loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@QuickOK  Even tho this thread is a year old the only femtocell that AT&T has is the Cell Booster. The MicroCell was retired a couple of years ago once AT&T moved away from 3G to 4G/LTE. The Cell Booster (poorly named) is an LTE only femtocell. The Cell Booster is meant for voice only and not as an internet connection. You must have a post paid AT&T cellular account and a land-based internet service (DSL, cable, or fiber).

Read my AT&T Cell Booster Tech Guide. It's the first link in my sig line.

@QuickOK

Based on your post the microcell does not resolve your problem. It would never resolve your problem. A true cellular booster might.

A cellular booster amplifies existing cellular service to make it more usable.  A cellular booster only requires electricity to function and an indoor and outdoor antenna to bring signal inside.

You're complaint is about data from handheld computers, the microCell isn't used to resolve problems with data connectivity, it's to enable voice calls when cell signal is poor.

A microcell requires a wired internet service to hook up the MicroCell in order for it to use the internet for voice calls.   The internet service continues to handle all data.

You indicate you do not have a wired internet service. If you did you would not need a microcell or a cellular booster
