Kyocera E4830 continues to need software update

I cannot believe how much time (2 years) has passed since my original post.  ATT and Kyocera have done nothing to make a simple update to the phone's software so that the predictive texting will work correctly and stop deleting words out of the dictionary.  Or even just let the dictionary be reset to start over the process of it slowly becoming barely usable.  While the phone was under warranty, Kyocera even suggested that -I pay them- to send in their malfunctioning product and they'd send me another.  After spending considerable time emailing with their reps, I gave up due to the terrible customer service.  Now it looks like the only replacement option is a Sonim, which might not be much of an upgrade.  ATT - I paid for the phone, but the product you supplied has never worked correctly since day 1.  I will always feel like you owe me...

It's not an AT&T problem. They just sell phones, and offer Asurion insurance if you want it. Any mfr defect is handled by the mfr under their warranty. AT&T owes you nothing. Any update comes from Kyocera, not AT&T. So if there aren't any updates available for your phone, complain to Kyocera.

When I paid for the phone, the money went to ATT.  The "owes you nothing" comment tells a little bit about you.  As I mentioned, complaining to Kyocera turned into a laughable joke after hours of time invested.  But thanks for your input, bro...I'm sure it wasn't meant to be rude, I'm sure it was a way of trying to be helpful...

Phones bought from a carrier have their updates made by the manufacturer of the phone with carrier specific requirements. And even if Kyocera releases an update, there might not be a carrier specific one. My prior phone (Kyocera DuraForce Pro) received an update to the OS to all carriers that sold it except one, which just happened to be the carrier I had.

It is cheaper to get the phone through the carrier as they are using that being subsidized (or however they lower cost) in order to entice you staying their customer. The alternative is buying an unlocked version directly from the manufacturer. It may be more expensive, but you don't have to worry about carrier specific software/bloatware that may be problematic plus you can take with you to any compatible carrier if you wish.

I have found Kyocera phones to be quality build, durable, even though their OS and processing tends to be a bit behind because of it. Was disappointed when the DuraForce Pro Ultra 5G was Verizon exclusive, since that didn't sacrifice performance like a lot of their prior phones to be durable. Even got my mom a E4831 DuraXA (unlocked) since she needed something simple and easy to use while durable, but all the flip phones you buy from carriers these days are so cheaply made. Interestingly Cat S62 has been great as well, but the S22 Flip wasn't as rugged as I thought (outside screen is just random colors with a drop after 2 weeks) and by my mistake didn't realize it was a smart phone (my mistake) so it overwhelmed her. The Kyocera is doing great.
